Today, on my way out, I opened the mailbox to a delivery package addressed to me.
I peeled back the tape and opened a box full of every painting supply a person could think of from a total stranger on DU.
I began to cry. Then I cried some more. And then I cried even more yet.
Inside was a note with my name lots of hearts and lots of smiley faces. I hope other people in this group realize that this is probably one of the best groups on the entire Internet. I've been a member here for 21 years, I don't know this person, but I share my love of art as she does.
Some of the best people I've ever met in my entire life are in this group.
This one's name happens to be "Liberal Loner."
I certainly wasn't expecting the contents of six beautiful brand new pallets. And all the extra supplies.
My mother always told me that good people are like stars far and few between, but my dad reminded me who was the always the optimistic giver that there were so many in which I have not seen yet. Today that star fell from the sky into my lap so to you " Liberal Loaner" hope that I can paint a reverie as Norah Jones sings if that's the only way for me to meet and say thank you.
I am drunk with joy~~~~as I have it all laid out on my dinningroom table in awe each time I walk past it.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope to use these with my greatest passion of painting.
Love~~~~

(13,786 posts)This just really was overwhelming. I haven't even moved the paint to my office yet. I have them all lined up on my dining room table. I guess I just need to walk by them so I don't have to pinch myself. This really happened.

(10,139 posts)I know how it is wanting to paint and not being able to afford the supplied.
I've always been able to come up with ways to make my own psint and to find materials to paint on. Using eggs and dried out tempera paints makes a good paint and using primed wood, cotton fabric or masonite a good surface. But nothing beats the feel of really good paper and the vivid look of good paints.
Enjoy your bounty. Hope to see some more wonderful paintings from you.

(13,786 posts)And I would buy a little as I
Learned and went. Now I paint to be able to afford picture frames and the paper and paint and lucky me. I'm able to sell a few now and again, which helps me out immensely.

(3,524 posts)... I've had suggestions before, but the apps that were recommended weren't especially helpful. I used to post cartoons and rants under the auspices of World News Trust, but that was a decade ago. My 78-year-old brainpan ain't got quite the memory reserves it once had.
I'll welcome your help.

(11,467 posts)Because I have my mammogram tomorrow morning and I didnt sleep, am feeling that anxiety people feel once theyve had cancer, its too easy to get scared of what the news might be. So I was fighting the blues today and your kind words and the kind words of everyone here on DU have lifted my spirits more than I can say.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And everyone, if you havent already, please go look up Samples work on the artist forum, you will be enchanted and amazed by her beautiful art!
Watercolor is by far the most difficult medium to master, but she is brilliant in it!

(11,467 posts)I had to wait for an ultrasound. Boy was my anxiety off the charts.
I wonder if that is a common thing after cancer and reconstruction?
It sure is a relief when they say no cancer, isnt it?

(11,467 posts)First images, they called me back for more mammogram images on the left side, where the cancer had been removed.
Then I got even more worried as the radiologist looked at those images, and said, we need an ultrasound, we will try to fit you in between other patients.
So I sat there for about an hour getting increasingly worried and pessimistic the cancer had returned.
I had to talk to myself very sternly to keep from crying. I felt sick to my stomach from worry and I wished I had a soda or something to calm my tummy. I asked my Mom in heaven to wait with me for the results and help me be strong and accept whatever the results were. I think she did come stay near me, in spirit.
But thank goodness, I got very lucky and my wonderful friend Betts prayed for me, and I am cancer free!
Betts is such a wonderful person, she takes care of all the people around her when they get cancer or need help, and never asks anything from anyone.
We are so lucky to have her here on DU! 💙💙💙💙💙

There are so many incredible people out there, helping others in any way the can, it amazes me.
One thing I have definitely noticed, is that the good/great people have become even greater these past few years,
While the mean ones, have all doubled down and become even meaner......Ironic, isn't it???????
Thank you for sharing this with all of us, we ALL get a warm feeling knowing that it makes a difference......
