The NY Times somewhat famously issued an anti-endorsement, encouraging voters to not support Mamdani. It looks like NY Dems didn't buy it and voted for him anyway. It raises the question of whether the NY Times still holds sway with Democratic voters in the city and elsewhere.

All paid for by taxing the rich.

but not very much for those who live in New York City....)
After all those Republican tax cuts, the rich are swimming in money...
but want the poorest to starve so they can have a little more...

I looked it up. 1971. No wonder I played the crap out of it during my college radio show! It was a VERY important song back then. Loved the guitar on it, too.

(15,363 posts)Of course, the lyrics were by no means intended to advocate any specific course of action. Alvin Lee was expressing what so many people both then and now feel -- a sense of being overwhelmed by so many problems that we don't know what to do, so we just hope somebody comes up with solutions.
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I leave it up to you
The musical composition on this track is absolutely beautiful, and Lee's guitar playing is phenomenal. I'd Love to Change the World is beyond a classic rock song -- it is a masterpiece.

Somehow I doubt MAGAts will let any of that happen.
Maybe I've become too cynical, or, realistic. It seems like we move half a step forward and twenty steps back.

(78,639 posts)at a staff meeting at the mental health clinic, my supervisor told a story about fleas. If they are kept for a short time in a jar with a lid on it, after bumping into the top a few times, the fleas adjust. One can take the lid off the jar, no flea will fly high enough to be free. He was talking about some of the social stumbling blocks that people with mental illnesses face. and how our task was to help them remove that lid.
My older daughter lives with her husband and baby daughter in Europe. It is a country that cares about the well-being of human beings. This includes in areas like health care, child care, and education. Thus, it is possible that we could create a society that cares about the well-being and life satisfaction of human beings. That, of course, would require the opulently wealthy class to pay taxes. And that we all take the lid off.

(15,363 posts)Worthy goals are great, but actually accomplishing them are something else altogether, especially in a huge city. Knowledge of budgets, competing priorities, experience working with the city council and multiple departments are essential.
I haven't looked into Mamdani's political career and previous government positions, but I hope he has enough of that to be successful.
