My four year old granddaughter is a sage. Wisdom for the ages.

We were swimming and she asked if we could race each other to the end of the pool.
As were were about to start the race she said; "Granny, grab my hand and hold on so we can win together".

That is what we Dems believe. In this world, maybe we need less competition and more "winning together".

It's an excellent book. I read it 25-30 years ago and it really opened my eyes to the disservice we do to others by making everything a competition where "winner takes all".

convince my wife that 2 boats are a necessity for life; and one is fast and the other is not. I often toy with the idea of racing the smaller, faster boat, but I realized that I can enjoy going fast without being bound up by comparing myself to others through competition. If I can be sure that I can compete without being disappointed in myself, my crew or my boat I may try it.

in the schools. Putting on a play requires cooperation an support of others. The prop person is as important as the lead actor - if the phone rings and the phone is not on stage - big mistake.
I have seen so many students push themselves farther than they thought possible.
By the end, they experience comradery.

It always seemed to me that one of the biggest problems with competition is that it leads to redundant efforts, with inevitable waste. It's worth remembering that evolution only functions by killing off less successful organisms at a prodigious rate. Corps and exculpatory pundits praise "free market competition", but as soon as they make it to the top they start fixing the laws (by paying the lawmakers) to make sure no new competition to their own monopoly can ever succeed. So the beauty of the free market is that someone else has to go out of business.

Ds and Rs love their families.
Ds and Rs love their country.
Ds and Rs love justice.
Ds and Rs love their religions (or freedom from religion).

Note: Ds and Rs view those things through different lenses, where for example, Rs sometimes see pardoning Jan 6 violent mobs is "justice". This is mostly because maga is largely "miscalibrated from reality".

What Ds add is a love for the wider community that exists in a range between "family" and "country". It is because Ds have more empathy, which is a set of feelings most often derived from more intelligence. Hard to be less blunt.

Your granddaughter is intelligent.

Art Linkletter used to have a show on TV in the 50's called: Kids Say The Darnest Things...... Great show

My four year old son and I were driving by a hospital, and I said to him: "Look there's where your mom's father practices medicine".......
he replied," he doesn't practice dad, he does it for real".........LOL

My grandson and I, when he was about five, would watch dinosaur train......a disney? show about dinosaurs. The guy who ran the show made some statement about dinosaurs and my grandson said "that's actually a hypothesis"..............(His mother is a biologist and scientist) I thought I would call him on using that word and I asked him if he knew what a hypothesis meant. He said sure, it means a theory, but it has to be proven by running a lot of scientific experiments.

LOL

I think kids and animals are a lot smarter than we think......

With no losses there is no winner.

Not only is that little girl a complete gem, the people in her life must be great, as well. Hugs and a few tears for everyone!

I'm always very reluctant to post something in a thread as rare and precious as this.....oh, changed my mind, so I won't. I think it deserves its own thread, even though it won't be seen by nearly as many.
