Do you agree with Katy Tur about this?

She just stated on her show that Kamala Harris ran with "Donald Trump is bad. You need me because he's bad. They were running a negative campaign based on their feelings and what they thought were the voters' feelings....there were voices yelling that you need to have a positive message, you need to give voters something to vote for, not just something to vote against."

That's not how I remember it at all. Kamala Harris did make concrete proposals to help average Americans. And her proposals were much more specific and realistic than trump's. Of course she went on offense. Of course she criticized him. She would have been insane not to. But the idea, which Tur is stating as fact, that she offered no positive vision, is just not accurate.

Just as they've done with President Biden, the corporate media is working full time to rewrite history.

Edited to add that later she was calling out the winner in the NYC Mayor race for offering free stuff, and said something like she would love free childcare, to which Ashley Parker piped in that she would too.
Of course the implication is that it's unrealistic and gimmicky to offer
"free stuff", but what struck me was the lack of self awareness of both her, and to a lesser extent, Parker. The AVERAGE PARENT would not just "love" free childcare, they NEED it. I'll spell it out for Katy: they don't make cable news salaries like yours. You can afford your own childcare. Get it? Wow. Even by her standards, that was tone deaf.

Kamala and Walz ran on what looked like Hope and Change 2.0, which, given the uphill battle they had before them, I can't necessarily blame them for trying something out of the ordinary.

But it didn't work, because -- contrary to what some fucking idiots have said over the past decade -- it is much easier to vote against something than for something.

The Biden administration was the most progressive administration in most of our lives -- and it didn't end up mattering one fucking bit.

economic issues like inflation, etc. Too much "economy is great," "I wouldn't change anything," and trump is evil.

Not only did we lose electoral vote, but also the popular vote. That hasn't happened in quite awhile.

The only concrete proposals I remember were $50K for first time home buyers, agreeing to support trump's plan to reduce taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security. I'm sure there were others, but not much of consequence. Beating trump was a big issue for me and other Dems, but not voters as a whole.

Admire Harris' valiant effort and tireless campaigning, but it was a tough situation that we shouldn't have been forced into.

There should have been TV ads hammering Trump for the following, but I never saw a one:

Mr. Obama, in a speech two weeks before election day, pointing out that Trump inherited the great Obama economy, then, by botching the Covid pandemic, brought the economy crashing down. This should have been a TV ad starting one day after the Democratic Convention.

The Republicans torpedoing the Bi-partisan Border Bill.

Jan 6th / His inciting an insurrection... dead and injured police;

Botching the Covid pandemic and the resulting negative economic consequences;

Sam Elliot narration - Draft-dodger Donald - his anti-veteran statements.(Sam Elliot did a web ad for Kamala).

Trump's felony and other convictions;

Trump not returning stolen top secret documents;

Trump says "climate change is a Chinese hoax"; Then show wildfires, etc.

Ms. Harris' age vs Trump's age > Dementia?

Sam Elliot narration - Trump: The biggest "Sore-loser, cry-baby" of all time.

Anti-Semitic guests at Mar-A-Lago & Tucker Carlson;
Many others.

Not that I want to defend a know-nothing like Tur, but I do feel the "existential threat" rhetoric was not wise when directed toward the average American. Too nebulous, too "in the weeds".
And, as to the things being proposed to help Americans, I think the message was directed toward people like us who stay plugged into this stuff on a daily basis.
On cost of living, it should have been "Here's what I would do AND this guy's tariffs will make things worse." No details, no numbers. Just make him the opposite of what he was selling.
Was there some negative campaigning? Yes. I think we did it wrong.

Who Trump was was known by everyone. What he did in his first term was known, the crimes he and his company committed were known. The election was between two very different versions of the US. It can also be seen as a referendum on Trump.

I suspect that the keys to understanding the election are two things.

The first is that there is a large right wing bubble that has many outlets, all telling the same story. Their stories are lies, mis characterizations and character assignations of anyone not on their side. They attacked Democrats and even non MAGA Republicans, who had shown integrity , commitment and love of country. Even when their goals were 180 degrees from ours, it was because their values, which were in line with their actions, were 180 degrees from ours. Democracy needs people to have facts they agree on, differing on what to do based on those facts. That block was very motivated to get out and vote. They actually believe that Trump was both a great President and unfairly persecuted and threatened with jail.

The second problem was that we felt enormous relief when Biden took office and nominated a cabinet of qualified people. We relaxed further as he reassured the world, led an economic recovery better than any economist thought possible, and with narrowest margins passed legislation that was sorely needed. Meanwhile, January 6 and other Trump felonies were exposed and even though the courts slow walked things, he was convicted in NY of felonies and the other crimes were laid out in great detail. Yet even before the terrible debate, Trump was outpolling Biden and Biden had very low approval. Still, we really did not believe people would vote a convicted felon as President. We were the side with less fear of losing and less motivated.

As to motivation, both sides more and more see the other side in charge as not just a setback towards moving on our goals, but an existential danger to what our country is.

and the rightwing media bubble put us at a disadvantage at every turn. The situation was complicated, and needed an aggressive, simple approach. Go on offense, then say what you will do. Rinse. to be authored by the "winners." Thus, there is really no chance that both President Biden and VP Harris would not be attacked at this time. Parasites look for hosts.

I had initially wanted then Senator Harris to be our candidate in 2020. I thought she would do best in debating the felon. But I had no problem switching to Joe Biden. Heck, I had wanted him for president for decades. In 2024, I supported President Biden. When VP Harris became our party's candidate, I found it uncomfortable. But I understood why, and was happy to support VP Harris.

In their debate, I thought VP Harris was as good as any candidate in my lifetime. Nothing any journalist ever says will change the great respect I have for President Biden and VP Harris.

I remember learning about that in a lecture during college. Women's magazines were putting out "quick 'n easy" recipes and there was a coordinated social effort --spearheaded by the government--to make women feel guilty for NOT leaving their children and going to work for the war effort.

Of course, when the war was over and "the boys" were back home, "real women" stayed home and worn cinched-waist dresses when they weren't producing three to five children. I'm not saying that those young men didn't sacrifice for their country; of course they did. But women have always been expected to sacrifice while being told to smile and look nice the whole effing time.

Anyway, I don't want to get off into a long, drawn out tangent. Here's an article that talks about government-supported childcare during WWII.

If they do draw the contrast and point out those flaws, they're bashing the other guy and not being positive in presenting their own policy positions.

If they draw very specific policy proposals with great details and white papers, they're making laundry lists and losing voters with too many words when simple bumper sticker messenges would resonate.
If they boil it down to a few specifics, then they aren't being clear, they haven't explained why they're running, and nobody hears what they're offering.

If they offer things voters like, there's something wrong with how they did it -- how they talk, dress, laugh, or maybe a word out of place!
The other guy talks out of both sides of his mouth, has all the decorum of a bratty 6-year-old, and lies constantly, but they're not supposed to mention that too much, or we're back to the top...

Sure as hell sounds like it---she's definitely got her Democrat-bashing kicked into high gear.

Helpful hint to Ms. Tur: Donald Trump is bad---as in, the very worst, most destructive, brain-dead president this country has ever experienced.

It’s not about the message or candidate. Republican voters are high on hate and cruelty. They’ve been told for 50 years that the government gives thousands to welfare moms and their 20 kids and that all their problems are due to black and brown people. We must recognize that 77 million people don’t know what democracy is , but they hate it. They prefer a circus act and a dictatorship.

It’s not her fault!

Stop, already.

What the fucking "positive" did that Nazi fascist, with a shaved Golden Retriever's ass where his face should be, offer???????

Seriously! WTF is "positive" about this asspickles entire, miserable existence??

He came out of his mother's vagina, a raging, evil, worthless pile of amphibian shit, and has only gotten worse.

He has no values.

He has no morals.

He has no ethics.

He has no compassion, or empathy.

If it weren't for the human emotion of envy, you would not even consider him a human fucking being!

It's the 50th anniversary of the movie Jaws. There is a great scene where Hooper explains; "what you have here is a perfect eating machine. All this shark does is swim, and eat and make baby sharks".

All Donnie Dipshit does is breath, and eat and make baby nazis!

Maybe things would have been different, if every lazy fucking "stenographer" like Katy Tur, didn't put a fucking positive spin on every evil, smelly fart he spews out of his face-anus!

Sorry! I've used too many words to say; "Katy! Go fuck yourself sideways!

IMO. I can't stand her show.

Katy should have educated herself and voters in 2024. Instead, she makes excuses for her failure (as a 'journalist') to shed light on the truth.

Who is her audience? People who forget to change the channel while waiting for Nicolle's show to start?

msnbc is a front of some kind because they couldn't care less about ratings.

Turd is rewriting history.

It's classic propaganda. Note that donnie objectively a horrible president, a horrible candidate, a convicted felon, and incompetent monster, etc. the media should have been screaming their heads off, sounding 5 alarm emergency about what a disaster donnie would be.

So to criticize Harris for supposedly campaigning on the "donnie is bad" narrative is a way for a propagandist to erase or dismiss that narrative. If it isn't false. It's a losing narrative. Who cares if it's true.

If turd was around when some people were saying "the British are coming", turd would be saying they seem friendly and why be negative?

I've often thought that the corporate media is trying, through comments like these, to dissuade Dems from criticizing trump. It tries to paint valid, truthful attacks as some tired narrative so that Dems back off. Unfortunately, some Dems seem to fall for it.
