I am at a Coeur d’Alene hotel on I-90 waiting to start fire lookout duty tomorrow. I saw the smoke column come up on the south side of Hayden Lake about two hours ago. Hayden and Hayden Lake are on the close north side of Coeur d’Alene.

Local news sources are saying that the fire was started to lure first responders in, at which time they were ambushed. Three firefighters were reported shot in the chest. Other firefighters and law enforcement are/were shot at.

It is hot and very dry, so the fire in and of itself is significant. There are incredible numbers of sirens and multiple helicopters in the area.

The right-wings are fanning these flames on purpose.

My niece is slightly frantic trying to figure out what is going on. She's about 18 miles away from the ambush.

It sounds as if they are in an area of rough terrain and a replay of the scanner indicates that at least 2 firefighters were shot and injured seriously.

My niece is a magat. She's my sister's caregiver so I do all I can to keep the peace with her. I love her but it is beyond frustrating that she is so complacent in her racism and the way she congratulates herself on being "christian" and raising her children "conservatively" when she can just close her heart off to the treatment of any number of marginalized populations.

I Googled the area on maps and can almost bet where these cowards are. There is a small mountain overlooking a subdivision which would make a snipers perch for someone doing this.

He said the only cases of firefighters being called to a scene and then be ambushed happens in rural cities that have social unrest. He never heard of it happening in rural areas.

I live in NW Montana and even I won’t stop in Northern Idaho. I make sure the tank is topped off before the state line so I won’t have to stop for any reason until I’m well into Washington state.
