They knew who he was and what he intended to do. I'm trying very hard to forgive, but unless they show some remorse, I won't be able to do it.

Not just with Trump...but with everything.
I might be able to forgive those people. Maybe.
But for those with malice in their hearts?
No way.
They destroyed the greatest democracy in the history of the world.
The best economy in the world is being destroyed.
Also destroyed is the US federal workforce, science, education, healthcare, etc etc.
Women, POC, LGBT are being destroyed as well.
People will die, people will be hurt financially.
And the MAGA did it willingly and knowingly.
They know Trump is a vicious psychopath.
There is no path to forgiveness for them in my book.

MAGA/trumpism whatever you want to call it, is here to stay. We need to recognize that. This is not about trump. Even if they were to turn on trump, it is only a matter of time before another trump like figure comes along and they support whatever evil that person wants to do.
trump is the symptom. There is a sickness that has always been in the American blood stream. The racism, bigotry, misogyny, meanness, extreme selfishness - I want my cheap eggs - (for the ones that claim they voted because of price of eggs) even if it means that people have to suffer for cheap eggs. See how many of them don't mind if other people lose their healthcare, as long as they are not affected.
Forget the convictions. - Many Americans do not care about that. They don't mind having a criminal president.
What I cannot understand, is that one million people died from Covid 19. He botched the response. Untold deaths due to his disregard for life.
He could have taken a different stance - He could have leveled with the American people, took action to save lives, encouraged the vaccines - and assured people that closures were necessary but the Government would do everything in its power to help us get back on track, once we got control of the virus. IMO, he would have won easily had he taken that stance. Instead he chose to weaponize it into us vs them. Now even more people will die now that we have a man in charge of our health who does not believe in vaccines and medications for mental health.
I was in NY during 9/11 - I remember the days and weeks after that, walking around the city, people were traumatized, you could see it on their faces. The fear was very apparent. You didn't know if we were still in danger. Were we next?? Is there another plane about to hit us??
I had that same feeling during the height of Covid lockdown, when I did venture out, I often saw that same look on people's faces. The fear of not knowing if we were safe.
People that witnessed that fear, just said, eh, eggs, I'll trade cheap eggs to put the person responsible for inflicting so much trauma on the nation back in office. Then came Jan 6, more trauma. They saw all that and said, yeah, give me more of that.
No, I cannot forgive people that inflict this kind of trauma.
They should be shamed. They depend on Dems always being the nice guys to continue their evil ways. Fuck em!

(15,315 posts)If they admit to themseves and to others how wrong or mistaken they were, and do what they can to make amends (call their reps; join protests; vote against trumpism).
Trump is a con man enabled by a huge propaganda industry that shapes the views of tens of millions of low information voters who may lack critical thinking skills, especially when they were raised in a family and peer environment which has imbued and reinforced those views since childhood.
If they can overcome all that and the exceedingly difficult task of realizing and admitting that vociferously defended beliefs have been tragically wrong and hurtful to others...
Then I can forgive them.
I said, 'if you don't vote for Kamala it will be the end of our country as we know it.'

Why do they deserve forgiveness for that?
But forgiveness is not for them. It is for you. Each person gets to decide the emotional cost to themselves of resentment, anger, the need for vengeance. Forgiveness has nothing to do with the perpetrator.
Do what is right for your own emotional health.

(2,549 posts)They just don't know how awful that orange con man is. Or they know he's awful, but they think Democrats are worse.
My younger brother and his wife in Florida are good people, but they voted for that orange thing. The last time I visited them was in February. My brother said while I was there that the current occupant of the White House is "almost as bad as Biden." WTF? Joe Biden is an honorable and decent man. That thing in the White House is nothing of the sort.
Some years back my brother said something about Democrats being evil. I think the churches have a lot to do with these delusions about the integrity of Democrats. I haven't darkened the door of a church in decades. I sometimes think I ought to go to church services a few times to get some idea of what kinds of propaganda they're preaching now.
It's Fox and 1500 right-wing radio stations and the churches. They have brainwashed the American electorate. How do we go about unbrainwashing them?
Can I forgive them for the unholy horror they have inflicted on us? Yes, I can forgive the ones who are good people but just deluded. But a lot of them are not good people; they are the same kinds of villains as that orange thing in the White House, and no, I can't forgive them.

(783 posts)presidency. I had a great federal contractor job for 3 years that I loved and enjoyed until May of this year when DOGE got rid of it. This big POS bill also affects me when it comes to health insurance since I'm unemployed right now and I'm on ACA. I'm not too old at my age of 41 to get a job but I also know age discrimination has ratcheted up where 40 is now the new 50 for a lot of these corporations. I say this because I maybe left with no options other than working dead end jobs or being self employed. In either scenario I'm going to have to buy insurance from the ACA. This bill is going to make it very hard for me to get affordable insurance where I might have to risk not having insurance and god forbid I suffer a medical crisis then I will be cooked.
Fuck these MAGA clowns. I have a younger sister who is MAGA that I have always despised even before she became MAGA. I avoid her like the plague and would only see her once a year during Thanksgiving at my parents house only because my parents would ask me to come over. I told my parents now that I'm not coming to their house for Thanksgiving if she's there since she played a role in voting for this POS to get rid of my job. They understand the situation since they are also Anti-MAGA.

They bring nothing of value to my life when they don't have the capacity to care about others, have empathy for others' suffering, and they damn sure are NOT animal welfare people. Those qualities (compassion, empathy, and animal welfare) are all minimal components that I need for someone to be in my circle.

I have MAGA family members.
For example:
I told them ACA saved my life, being a lymphoma survivor and no more lifetime limits; they respond that Trump did this; not that he tried to repeal it.
I told them Trump is responsible for 40% of the deaths from COVID, they respond about COVID was manufactured.

No anti-libbrul, not pro-life, not devout Christian, not fiscally responsible. This time, they were just lying, mean-spirited people who derived joy from other people being hurt.
The only ones so far showing remorse are those who have been personally adversely affected. Trumpolatinos who have seen family members abducted and sent to parts unknown, Trump voters who have (or soon will) have vital medical aid, food aid, or shelter aid removed or canceled, and then suddenly whining, "I didn't vote for this." Yes, you did. You voted for exactly this. If you still have the right to vote next time, which I doubt, because you can't if you are indigent or dead, vote differently next time.
