And Im going to have to try and explain to her that she is gonna have to get a job. In order to pay for the tax cuts for the rich to keep our third world country afloat.

(15,587 posts)Yet my 20 year old son informed me yesterday. As he got home from union apprentice carpenter work is slowing down. Good fucking times i say once again sarcasm.
Then I pulled my third tomato pie out of the oven this week as we stood in the kitchen.
Ive been experimenting with different cheeses this time with Boursin cheese. And my son said you do need to go back out on the road your shoulder is healing i love you dad.
Yet three tomato pies this week you have a problem and its intervention time.
Aw i thought he loves me elleng.

(112,805 posts)--hanging on by a thread will already have closed or begun the process.
Your optimism is appreciated, but I'm already seeing what is being planned in response--even in Colorado, where 6 rural hospitals are in that latter category and all the other hospitals unable to pick up the "slack," Even those WITH health insurance better be prepared to see their premiums escalate beyond anything you imagined as a result. No, I am NOT kidding. I don't mean to be overly grim this early in the morning, but the number of patients requiring emergency care in my ER that are uninsured, underinsured or simply know the costs are going to bankrupt them and who are begging to be allowed to die has increased like never before. And when you see that it is hard NOT to be grim.
My apologies for being so frank, elleng. You don't deserve to bear the brunt of my unpleasant assessment, but it is not exaggerated.

(22,208 posts)I've heard the time frame is 2 or 3 years, but I don't know any specifics. I've been googling, trying to find out when various provisions will actually go into effect, but haven't had any luck yet. If anyone reading this knows more, please feel free to fill in the blanks.
The midterms are less than a year and a half away, and if we can take back at least the House, it's at least theoretically possible that some of the worst parts of this (like the cuts that will cause hospitals and nursing homes to close) could be headed off. That's all hypothetical at this point, but it's at least something to hold onto for now.
I don't have extremely high hopes, but I seem to be one of those cockeyed optimists that insist on hanging on to hope with my fingernails no matter how hard the "bad guys" try to wrench it away from me. I know that probably sounds nuts to some of you, but as Popeye used to say, I yam what I yam!"

(112,805 posts)That means they will fail, even if it is not imminent this year. They can't get bridge funding, their boards of directors or county commissioners are fed up and want to sell to the first hedge fund that comes along which will totally dismantle them before anything "official" happens from Dr. Oz'a corrupt/ignorant-as hell CMS and the Trump White House.
These hospitals are dying, and this is the last nail in the coffin. And their death will mean thousands of patient deaths. The clueless, wealthy and yes, well-intentioned, yet uninformed among us who think their full insurance shields them--and who do not see what I and my colleagues see daily--are about to find out. This is going to hurt all of us. Those who will now have to travel hours for a serious emergency are not going to have a "Flight for Life" helicopter dispatch for them if they are not $$$$. Nor will they get the needed routine care that such travel entails. We are about to start a horrendous trend not readily reversible of increasing overall mortality rates and poor survival from treatable disease to join the trend in maternal mortality in this country--something that will make WHO and the rest of the world just look upon us aghast.
A delay in Medicaid cuts that is not immediate-- even though passed in legislation and fully announced. Oh, I only wish that made the ultimate difference. It does not. It will not.

(22,208 posts)I am fortunate to live in a major metropolitan area in a blue state, which means I am insulated from many harsh realities. I now see that things are much worse than I thought.

(112,805 posts)A rural clinic in Nebraska is shutting its doors after more than 30 years due to mounting financial pressures and looming federal funding cuts tied to Medicaid, ABC affiliate KLKN reported Wednesday.
According to the report, Troy Bruntz, president and CEO of the hospital, noted that while the clinic has been a vital part of our mission to deliver quality healthcare close to home... the current financial environment, driven by anticipated federal budget cuts to Medicaid, has made it impossible for us to continue operating all of our services, many of which have faced significant financial challenges for years."

(60,779 posts)I guess they will keep calling it a lie until it happens after the midterms. Also, I don't think she would be considered able bodied.
I don't know when the federal subsidy for Medicaid expansion goes into affect, but that impacts people getting ACA insurance.
I think nursing home Medicaid expenses are impacted by cuts to the state, but none of the summaries I saw explained that.

(112,805 posts)in a big way, as they clothe ALL their residents in ICE gear and announce that they are ready to go to work under that $175 BILLION that ICE just received and to meet their WORK REQUIREMENT for what little MEDICAID remains.
Let that story go as viral as it possibly can and embarrass the hell (if possible) out of MAGAT Congressmen and women as well as Trump and his entire administration.
Ordinarily, I'd be a "protect privacy at all costs" kind of person, but maybe just this one time, to make a critical point.
