If you are inclined to gloat over the death of kids or the death of ANYBODY because they live in a place where 6 in 10 voted Trump instead of 5 in 10 or 4 in 10, then I think maybe youre not here for the hunting.

(17,173 posts)Is it "too soon" to debate whether devastating Retrumplican cuts to the NWS contributed to this tragedy?

(18,742 posts)who are gloating, I'm not of a mind to put up with anyone conflating "told you so" with gloating.
"This was avoidable" is not gloating.
"This was predicted" is not gloating.
"This is what results from people voting MAGA Republican" is not gloating.

(112,851 posts)"Hunting?" What the hell does THAT mean? How is it that all are ignoring THAT part of the comment? Hunting children? Taking children hunting? WTF does that even mean?
I am disgusted...

(2,015 posts)if it was some colloquialism I've never heard before. It's the punchline to a joke but to be honest I'm still missing how it applies here. I usually love Pope Hat's stuff, I've been following him for ages, but that one is a big whoooosh over my head.

Quite the opposite from what I've seen.

(169,667 posts)pointing out denial of climate change and cutting weather service budgets is NOT a good idea is NOT GLOATING, THAT IS REALITY

(1,103 posts)People on here. Shocking for anyone who has connections in that area or are seeing the please from family members here looking for children. They are literally recovering bodies 15 feet up in trees.

(100,132 posts)Thats us. Im glad it was only one word, because that way I can believe it was just a moments slip. I dont do schadenfreude when peoples children have died.
Theres a time to say this was preventable and its appropriate now.
Theres a time to say trump/musk/DOGE gutted our national weather forecasting system, fired the people, turned off the satellites and that time is right now.
Every single time someone wants to bleat that nobody could have predicted this tell them who made it so and how they did it. Dont let them lay the blame on Biden or any Dem. The time is now.
I understand that Gov. Abbott is unavailable, on the basis that his Lt. Gov. gave the response and that he talked a lot about God. So Texans voted for a preacher to read them sermons? They didnt want someone who could deal with a catastrophe? Yeah you could say that now.
None of this is gloating, in my mind.

(32,305 posts)That kind of thing happens way too often, here at DU---I found a blatant example of it, just this morning. I'm a 3rd-generation Texas Democrat, and the Republican leadership of this state makes me want to puke. Lots of other Texans feel the same way, and our views deserve recognition and respect.

(100,132 posts)Maybe not lately, but to me it shows something wonderful in the Texas DNA that can be reborn. Betos working at it, for sure.

(32,305 posts)They definitely broke the mold when those two ladies graced Texas with their wit, their intelligence, and their political acumen. Such a stunning contrast to the drooling Republican "leadership" with which we're now burdened.

(525 posts)On edit: And pretending that people who are trying to understand what happened to prevent future tragedies are gloating, is deflection.

(93,239 posts)This always happened when Republicans that voted against disaster relief for blue states would support it for their state.
None of us are calling elected officials to vote against giving them aid.

(53,370 posts)prone area. Abbott was on TV praying a little while ago. They should have been looking at flood maps. Those would have helped more than Jesus. Guess it's too science-y for Texas, though.
