Flight data shows Sen. Ted Cruz could have rushed back to his flood-hit Texas constituency after the deaths of 100 people — including 27 girls and counsellors at a summer camp, the Daily Beast reported Tuesday.

Instead, he was seen touring the Parthenon in Athens, a full day after the Guadalupe River burst its banks. When confronted by a witness who said, "20 kids dead in Texas and you take a vacation?" Cruz reportedly "grunted and walked on" while his wife shot dirty looks.

Despite his office claiming Cruz returned from Greece "as fast as humanly possible" after the tragedy hit Friday, flight data obtained by the Beast shows multiple flights from Athens to San Antonio were available on both Friday and Saturday that would have gotten Cruz back to Texas significantly earlier than his Sunday return.

Commercial options included Saturday morning departures connecting through Chicago, Atlanta, or Washington D.C. that would have landed him in San Antonio that same evening. Friday flights were also available once the flooding's severity became apparent.

As a senator, Cruz also had access to private charter jets for emergency travel.

This marks another episode of Cruz being thousands of miles from Texas during crises. The senator infamously fled to Cancun during the deadly 2021 winter storm that left millions without power, only returning after intense backlash.

He could have issued some sort of mealy mouth statement about him and his office are closely monitoring the ongoing situation.

But noooo……

Republicans want to appear as being virtuous and caring without doing any of the actual work.

So they lie.

July 5th, 2018:

This is not The Onion: Eight members of Congress, all Republicans, spent America’s Independence Day in Russia.

Seven senators — John Kennedy (R-LA), Richard Shelby (R-AL), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Hoeven (R-ND), John Thune (R-SD), Jerry Moran (R-KS), and Ron Johnson (R-WI) — and one House member, Kay Granger (R-TX), are all in Moscow over the Fourth of July holiday this week for talks with Russian lawmakers and officials, according to reporting from the Washington Post, NPR, and investigative reporter Julia Davis.

if this had been a Democratic senator; there'd be non-stop coverage for the next news cycle and the talking heads would be talking about how the "Democrat-party" just doesn't care about the people. And Jake Tapper would have found his newest biggest scandal to write about. While I've come to expect nothing from Republicans, the absolute dereliction and treachery of the once vaunted "Fourth Estate" is particularly painful, because I expected more.

If the good citizens of Texas wanted to discontinue their relationship with this dolt, they would have voted him out a long time ago. His proclivities are very well-established.

My apologies to the even better citizens of Texas - Democrats - who are themselves the victims of their neighbors' self-loathing tendencies.

If Trump and DOGE are going to stick with their idiotic cuts to the National Weather Service and other forecasting tools, then we’re going to need a new warning system. So we’ve come up with the Oh Shit Ted Cruz is Making a Run For It Weather System.
