‘America always reacts. It never tries to prevent’

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/07/08/texas-flooding-rv-park-warning-system/84499868007/

Which party wants to take steps to address climate change and who stops them? Which party would like to prevent gun carnage and who stops them? Which party wants to reduce abortions via easy access to birth control and who stops them? Which party pushes for social programs for at-risk youth and who would rather build prisons?

There are SO many examples. It’s not AMERICA who is uninterested in preventative measures, it is the GREEDY OLD PIG PARTY.

I think the Texas motto needs updating:

Texas: the lone star state
Texas: the one (out of five) star state

My "one-star" rating is reflective of what has become of Texas, not a rating of every resident in the state.

I have liberal relatives in Texas. I'm sad about what has happened to the state and I blame the GOP, not every single individual living there. I'd vote for the ghosts of Ann Richards and Molly Ivans for the President/VP any day.

The oligarchs, ideologues, grifters and con-men who control the Republican Party may provide the Republican Party’s leadership and funding, but it is the masses of reality-challenged rubes that vote for them that provide the voter muscle that allow them to win at election time.

If even half of Republican voters would sit down and coldly analyze what their interests were and what their party’s leadership has done for (or to them) the Republican Party would be a tiny minority vying with the Greens for political obscurity.

So tired of progressives being lumped in with the electorally successful do-nothing party while calling it "America."

Also tired of so-called progressives blaming Democrats for "not fighting hard enough" when simpleton voters put the do-nothing party in power.

Frankly, we have an electorate that overwhelmingly prefers the Democratic agenda, but fills in the black dot for fascists. Frankly, it's mostly white voters with a form of Stockholm syndrome that prioritizes identity over policy. They've blindly accepted that the republican party of today (white men for white men) are better at handling the economy and foreign policy simply because they are almost exclusively white men. Meanwhile, it's the economic policies of those white men that keep wages low and prices high.

And of course there are the voters of all persuasions who need to be "enthusiastic" about a candidate before they vote. As if preventing floods, monitoring police misconduct, mitigating gun violence, protecting women's bodily autonomy, investing in domestic tech, etc. aren't anything over which one should be enthusiastic.

I was never optimistic about the brain capacity of some voters, but this last election has me trusting people a little less.

You are 100% correct.

Obama and Biden kept trying to get them to upgrade the system. The Republicans in charge, denied the help. trump slashed the funding to the NWS, so the warnings were slow. Local officials purposely withheld those warnings from the public.

Democrats tried to help, and the people kept electing the ones who said, nah.

better against this?

Should be a slam dunk: look at what decades of Republican leadership has resulted in. The whole deep-red south suffers under Republicans because Democrats refuse to assign blame where it belongs.

Soon, America will be Texas.

Then we need to start advocating for things like jury nullification to use against Republican laws then.
