Not that this has anything to do with anything . . .
SECDEF Pete Hegseth said during his confirmation hearing that he had done 57 push-ups that morning before showing up for his hearing.
BFD.
Im 80. Retired from the Army in 1995 with 28 years of service, one tour in the bush in Vietnam. Completed US Army Ranger School in 1968.
Im 80. I do 200 push-ups a day, 6 days a week. At 0600 I knock out 2 sets of 50, then, before bedtime I knock out another 2 x 50.
I will not get into sit-ups, lunges, curls, bench presses . . .
Hegseth is a wimp.
Oh , and did I mention that my 56-yr-old daughter - partner in a white shoe DC law firm - knocks out 200 a day also?

(44,738 posts)Thank You. Retired Navy here. Nine years your junior. I do wall push ups daily cause my left arm is held together with stainless steel rods. Crunchies daily. 10 pound curls daily. Im doing 700 plus miles of walking a year.
But Im so fucking impressed with hegseths noncommittal to mission. He doesnt give a fuck or know a fuck. But no doubt he cant wait for his stint to be over.
Thanks for the inspirational post Teammate.

(10,880 posts)in push up contest. And what's with the 57? Kind of an odd number but maybe that is the number that came up when he pulled it out of his drunken ass.

(919 posts)... 'four sets of 47'. trump (sic) is the 47th pres, which makes it even more disgusting, and from my point of view, more unlikely that he did it at all. The whole exchange was a set-up by sen tim sheehy (sic), who is a piece of work himself. He was the guy who asked hegseth (sic) how many pushups he could do.
Re: sheehy (sic) ... I refuse to capitalize any of these m/f's names ...
Lied about a bullet wound (Afghanistan? Accidental discharge in national park?) "Sheehy wrote in his memoir and in a resume submitted to the Montana State Legislature that he had been medically discharged [from the Navy] due to wounds received in Afghanistan. In October 2024, an NBC News review of Sheehy's discharge paperwork found that Sheehy voluntarily resigned from commission, contradicting his claims that he was discharged from the military because of injuries he sustained on duty."
In 2023, Sheehy published a memoir, Mudslingers: A True Story of Aerial Firefighting. The Daily Montanan accused him of plagiarism in the book, giving four examples, the briefest a 27-word passage from Wikipedia.
He said that young women had been "indoctrinated" on the issue of abortion.
Recordings ... led to accusations that he had racially stereotyped Montana's Crow people. In one statement about how he ropes and brands cattle with Crow tribe members, he said it is "a great way to bond with all the Indians while they're drunk at 8 a.m." Tribal leaders requested an apology, but Sheehy declined.
Birds of a feather.
