• Kyaw Mya (Burma/Myanmar): Convicted of lascivious acts with a child under 12 years of age (sentenced to 10 years, paroled after 4 years).

• Nyo Myint (Burma/Myanmar): Convicted of first-degree sexual assault involving a victim mentally and physically incapable of resisting (sentenced to 12 years).

• Thongxay Nilakout (Laos): Convicted of first-degree murder and robbery (sentenced to life) for shooting and killing a German tourist in 1994.

• Tuan Thanh Phan (Vietnam): Convicted of first-degree murder and second-degree assault.

Criminal #1: Opposed my congressional race and depleted my fundraising.
Criminal #2: Embarrassed my major donor causing irrevocable harm to his ego.

And so on. Point being, this will get easier with each flight.

The usual approach is to deport people back to their country of origin. Doing otherwise is kidnapping. We're not supposed to do that.

I'm not questioning that these particular people were charged and found guilty of serious crimes.

Unfortunately, under Trump we're seeing that quite a few people - an unknown number, because Trump administration won't release data, which itself is a huge problem - are being sent to be tortured in third countries without any due process at all. They're being snatched off the streets - women and children too - put on secret planes and sent to El Salvador and Gitmo and Sudan and now this Alligator place - a random set of places, some domestic some foreign, where nobody is getting any due process. That is definitely kidnapping.

If they get away with this, literally none of us is safe. Do you own a business somebody envies? They'll drop a tip on you. Having an affair with someone's wife or girlfriend and want to get rid of him? Call ICE, toll free.

A teen kid in a Midwest town was deported to who knows where. He was the ONLY student in his high school who was targeted. Guess what. He was the star athlete. You think maybe somebody was jealous?

But that wasn't the case for the eight people sent to Sudan - they had their due process and were ordered deported.

They already had their day in court. They were found to be murderers and rapists.

They had final removal orders - that doesn't happen without appearing before an immigration judge.

I noticed two of those eight were sentenced to life in prison. So why were they let out early or at all? Good behavior? And how long ago were these eight convicted?

Cuba, Vietnam, and Mexico have been accepting deportees of their own citizens, but there are some restrictions and not everyone is accepted. I venture to say that if our own current authorities were not total dickheads, those receiving countries might have been a bit more willing to accept these deportees.

Apparently all eight were in the US illegally. I don't know if they were smuggled in or overstayed a visa, or what.

These are rather unusual cases. Considering all the circumstances, and I still cannot say I fully understand all their situations, deporting them to a country that will take them is a better solution than just letting them roam the streets of the US. There is obviously no guarantee that these eight will never reappear in the US, so this problem may occur again.
