What I am experiencing right now could be all our future.
Maybe you only watch one or two shows on PBS.
Now imagine NO PBS. Not even on cable.
No PBS Kids,
No PBS Create,
No FNX,
No PBS World.
It could all go away-
Sinclair broadcasting operates eight channels in my area.
We had Over The Air METV and Murdoch's Movies! channel.
Sinclair decided they didn't want to pay for it or host them,
So they went away.
If you think that's okay, then do nothing.
If you think that's not right, get active!

And no, it isn't going to all go away. While I vehemently disagree with the cuts, federal funding is around 15% of PBS/NPR funding.

I'm guessing (hoping) that increased donations from viewers, corporations, and foundations will make up the difference.

We're going to start donating, but we're looking at whether we want to donate to our local PBS station (WETA) or to a station that is more rural and thus has a higher dependency on federal funding.

The PBS channels in major markets will be fine. The ones in places like rural PA are gonna be in trouble.

As someone who has been without PBS for twelve days...

On July 17, 2025, the U.S. Senate approved a $9 billion budget reduction package that cuts spending on international assistance programs as well as eliminates federal support for public radio and television across the country.

The cuts stemmed from the Trump administration's plan to reclaim previously allocated funds, despite bipartisan spending agreements and opposition from some senators.

The package eliminates $1.1 billion in funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $7.9 billion in other foreign aid programs, affecting health and food assistance abroad.

The Senate approved the cuts with a 51-48 vote after an extensive series of amendments; GOP leaders described the measure as a necessary move to address budget discipline, while opponents cautioned it would negatively impact public media and diminish Congressional control over spending.

The legislation now moves to the House for approval by Friday, with Democrats warning the partisan cuts may complicate future bipartisan funding negotiations and prompt local station closures.
