We were all aware of his cheating in business, golf, his sex crimes, his links to organized crime

Trump was a Democrat in an earlier iteration, but they wouldn't allow him to get near the reins of power. He then became a republican because they love wealthy people without souls. They took him in, praised his supposed "busines acumen," and prostrated themselves before him, turning him into the Orange Jesus they believe he is. In this way they could lay waste to our country's benevolent reputation and turn it into the top-first kleptocracy we see today.
