impressed. He gave extremely low-energy and mealy mouthed talking points to questions that should have been easy set ups. When asked if he regretted his past comments on RFK , he weakly criticized him for his vaccine stance and then immediately went into detailed praise about RFK's "nutritional" policies. He was, again, extremely mealy mouthed when asked to comment on Dems "unpopularity" in polls, and made no effort to go on offense.
At this point, any Dem who has access to a camera needs to know how to go on offense and get their points out there clearly and bluntly. And yes, he is playing footsie about running in 2028 so it does matter.

(12,261 posts)is AWFUL in general. There are a few standouts, but damn, they suck at offense and media messaging.

(24,259 posts)let alone the leader of the party. I am surprised he is even considering running for President.

(1,241 posts)that can take him aside and offer some guidance on messaging and image.
Maybe Polis doesnt recognize what his TV presence looks like
Send Senator Booker, Pete Buttigieg, and others to Colorado to talk with Polis.

(1,234 posts)Its absolute shit and has been for years, maybe decades. The GOP, through its propaganda outlets have perfected the art of quickly getting out there and flooding the zone with clear and consistent talking points (mostly bullshit of course).

(216 posts)I have policy differences with him, and we've talked about them, and I'd have a very hard time voting for him.
That said he is extremely accomplished in CO.
He had a plan to turn CO blue, and with a few other people they captured both sides of the legislature and the governor and sec of state. Both senators are D. CO is no longer a battleground state. More college degree voters than working class. Very good legislation on housing, semi auto rifles, taxes, etc.
He was great during covid. Weekly press conferences reporting in detail about what our state is doing. His low key under the radar techniques got our state tons of supplies to keep our health care workers safe when they were hard to get and other states were struggling.
Part of being effective is Polis doesn't fight, he wins instead, he passes legislation.
In person he's charming. Low key, engaged, great at making a connection. Very high IQ, self made wealthy. If he was different on a couple issues that he was immovable on I'd be volunteering. Great guy, difficult for me to vote for.

It's very important. But to me, messaging and communicating is everything. The party, as a whole, is starving for Ds who will go on offense. This guy doesn't have the ability to do that AT ALL. As you say, he is probably very effective as the Gov. of CO, and more power to him. But when he starts putting himself out there as a candidate for POTUS the standards change.

(367 posts)I also live in Colorado and Polis likes to lean into libertarian ideals way too much for my liking. Colorado has been trending blue way before him and I would argue that once Hickenlooper became governor it was a wrap for Republicans winning the governors seat unless something crazy happens. I think he was ok during COVID but his refusal to do shelter in place really showed the disconnect between him and Hancock (not a guy I like) which created a mess especially when health care professionals begged him to do so.

(316,916 posts)going to say.. you weren't 'impressed".. because Polis said some things when this whole thing started that seemed like he was acquiescing to Traitor. I don't remember What, though.
What is Wrong with him?
I pay extra attention to Colorado because I was born and raised there.

(24,259 posts)and I don't have anything against him personally, but if he is thinking of running for POTUS he needs to up his communication game significantly! He did not go after the R's at all.

(316,916 posts)run as a bipartisan potus.
Colorado is also one of the States that declared Ice Cream and Chocolate Junk Food. Ridiculous.! I don't know if that's the Gov.. if he has to sign off on it..?
