President Trump may have moved out of New York City, but he has privately discussed whether to intercede in its fractious race for mayor to try to stop Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, according to eight people briefed on the discussions.
In recent weeks, Mr. Trump has quizzed a Republican congressman and New York businessmen about who in the crowded field of candidates, which includes Mayor Eric Adams and former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, has the best chance of beating Mr. Mamdani, the leftist front-runner.
The president has been briefed by Mark Penn, a pollster who has worked for Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Andrew Stein, a former New York City Council president and decades-long friend of Mr. Trump, on a range of polling that showed Mr. Cuomo could still be competitive as an independent candidate. Both men have pushed Mr. Cuomo as the best candidate despite his loss in the Democratic primary, including in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed. One of Mr. Penns firms did extensive work for a pro-Cuomo super PAC in the primary.
And in a previously undisclosed call in recent weeks, Mr. Trump spoke about the race directly with Mr. Cuomo, an old associate and foil, according to three people briefed on the call, who were not authorized to discuss it.

(34,015 posts)This way it will be: Mamdani vs Coumo or Mamdani vs Adams or Mamdani vs Sliwa. Instead of Mamdani vs Coumo, Adams and Sliwa.
Sliwa said he's not dropping out.
The four way race is going to increase Mamdani's chances.
Trump needs to stay out of NYC politics. He f'ing left the place!

Fuck his whole goddamn career.
He can take that fake D and shove it up his ass.

(1,486 posts)being a "Socialist" would be more disqualifying than being a "Sociopath".
Sadly, and apparently, voters don't know shit about either word.
Stupidity is extremely tiresome, not to mention Cataclysmically Dangerous.
It is seriously way past time to clear up the mis/dis-information surrounding Socialism... and Capitalism.
Capitalism routinely fails the needs of more than twenty percent of Citizens, and makes "winners and losers" based on Race and Ethnicity, Religion, Gender and Politics. Call it what you like... it's still a KKKrister white-guy "tinkle-down" Economy.
Don't EVEN argue.
Zohran Mamdani speaks to the needs of the citizens of New York. Cuomo speaks to the needs of Wealth and Power.
Ironic that it takes a reviled Socialist to champion the People!!!!

Even with the shit baggage Cuomo comes with, like being a sex pest and his terrible Covid record with senior nursing homes.
He should never have been resurrected. Dems look/looked terrible aligning with him.

(180 posts)New Yorkers have a choice between a young progressive Muslim who speaks to the people, a sex pest or a corrupt traitor who should be on his way to prison. So far it looks like Adams and Cuomo don't stand a chance.

Mamdani is leading BECAUSE he is willing to speak the truth, even when it offends the rich and powerful. The people appreciate this.
Likewise, there has been a strong grass roots standing ovation for the Governors who are finally talking about fighting fire with fire on the gerrymandering front.
Not coincidentally the new Gallup approval poll of public figures has Trump and Musk dead last, with the Pope first. Among politicians, the only ones that were around break-even were Bernie and AOC. The rest ranged from disliked to reviled. There is a pattern here. The people at the grass roots level are damned sick of politicians in our own party who aren't willing to fight, and prioritize the needs of the working people over the "needs" of the corporations and billionaires.
