Butina was convicted of being a covert Russian agent and was deported from the US after serving a prison sentence, then was given a job harassing Alexei Navalny who was imprisoned in Russia by cowardly Putin who was terrified of Navalny.
Until Putin murdered him.

(129,335 posts)belief that only men and their needs, wants, and desires matter, that children, and women, are nothing but chattel, commodities, things that exist only as far as they are useful to men, easily replaceable, and certainly not actual human beings deserving of life. Children and women die by gun? Too bad. Our right to these hand-held phallic extensions is FAR more important to our fragile little egos.
And before anybody starts in about how many women have guns, I will remind everyone who is in charge of most corporations, and our various levels of government. Again, skip the "but some women. .." deflection. We know the pitiful numbers.

(40,005 posts)When white men's lives are the only thing deemed to have value, then the lives of black and minority people are also diminished. Just compare the numbers of of black-versus-white when the subject is capital punishment and death row prisoners. A vast majority of death sentences are carried out on black criminals, while white (male) criminals are more likely to receive mitigated sentences. It's not that white people are committing fewer crimes, it's that they are convicted but receive lighter sentences than the black convicts.
Yes the patriarchy as you describe it controls most of the wealth and political power even now ... in the 21st Century. Most men can't see the problem with it, and that's why things will never change in my lifetime.

Probably more likely. House without, 1.00. house with, 1.75. Or something like that.

(10,694 posts)Most reports say 3 measles deaths in 2024.
Yrs ago, I worked at a childrens hospital in Albuquerque (Carrie Tingley) - a six yr old girl came in paralyzed - shot by her sister. Mom & Dad had no guns in house. A friend of the dads hid his gun above the doorway & the 3 kids saw him do it. Parents were not aware there was a gun in the house. Luckily, after months in the hospital & lots of therapy she was able to walk with a limp but one arm remained totally paralyzed. The sister who shot her was a few yrs older and had to go for intensive therapy.
mgardener
(2,283 posts)There were 450 deaths per year from measles.
In the 64 -65 outbreak of German measles
1964 to 1965, an estimated 12.5 million people got rubella, 11,000 pregnant women lost their babies, 2,100 newborns died, and 20,000 babies were born with congenital rubella syndrome (CRS).
My concern is that the deamonization of preventative vaccines may cause a rise in kid's deaths as more kids are not vaccinated
Right now, that thankfully is not the case.
I had a 1st grader almost shoot off his thumb playing with his father's unsecured gun.
His younger brother, in the same room, was not hurt

(10,694 posts)Some end up paralyzed or severely injured.
My good friends toddler was killed many yrs ago - by a neighbors young child who found his dads gun. In was in a very rural NM community.
I can still see how heavy it weighs on her husband , It was her first son and she went on to have two more children - one is now a top correspondent for NYTs. What would her first child gone on to accomplish?
At the time, her toddler was a little older than my baby. I still want to cry when I remember it. She died a few months ago so its been fresh in my mind.

(222 posts)If there's a gun in the home friends and family are much less safe. Guns in the home mean a much higher suicide rate. Guns in the home lead a much higher death by accidental discharge rate (e.g. kids playing with guns). Guns in the home mean greatly increased rates of intentional discharge at unintended targets (e.g. accidentally shooting a family member or friend thinking they were a bad guy). Guns in the home mean greatly elevated chances of domestic disputes going terribly wrong.
What gun in the home don't do in actually decrease the rate of victimization by 3rd party bad guys.
https://time.com/6183881/gun-ownership-risks-at-home/
Then there's the fact that guns in the home actually make your home a target. Thieves love to steal guns as they're easy to transport and easy to sell on the black market.

(1,390 posts)1) I am not mentally unstable, nor it anyone in my house, so suicide is not an issue...A person can walk in front of a train if they are so inclined.
2) No kids, no grandkids, so, no kids in the house ever...
3) No unintentional discharges. I am a former range officer
4) No domestic disputes...been married for 24 years.
As to "third parties" entering my house with intent to do me or my wife harm or steal anything from my home, I wouldn't advise it.

(129,958 posts)a hellhole with dangerous crimes everywhere so women go for assholes instead of nice guys when they marry (it's science) thus they marry Republicans. Same thing with poverty: make poverty grow and middle class and upper middle class will feel their children could fall into poverty when they grow up so what is left of the middle class and upper middle class get mean and nasty and stop voting Democratic because they now have to hoard money and don't want to pay taxes (see Mexico). Financial stress, by doing things like increasing the cost of University and not forgiving student loans, also makes the people who suffer from it to not vote with reason, but with passion (so they vote on sexism, racism, homophobia instead of their economic best interests - it's science).

(43,094 posts)What do these idiot parents do that causes or leads to children's deaths?
We know some of them, such as beating their young children or leaving loaded guns where kids can get their hands on them. But those don't add up to the no. 1 killer unless there's a lot more than I know about.
Afterthought: Idiot parents are likely to raise idiot kids, whose own idiocy could get them killed.
