Jane Goodell is the maiden name of a much younger journalist who is alive.

So typos or weird autocorrects are not uncommon

The world is a better place for her having been in it. May her example strengthen us all.

I've read several of her books and was so inspired by her. She was a true champion of the environment and living lightly on this earth. The world was better off because she was in it. She was a brilliant scientist. She will be missed.

The world is just a wee bit better because she came our way. I guess we can hope that enough of us learned something good to apply to our own lives, not to mention the life of our planet.

Very sad news. As a musician I play at the local airport to entertain/de-stress travelers. I was playing once some years ago, next to a gate that didn't have any flights going out, so the waiting area was empty. Two women sat down there, one in business wear and the other older woman in faded plaid shirt and well worn jeans. They sat there for about 45 minutes, and when I finished and was packing up, the older woman came over, gave me a tip and said she really enjoyed listening. She said she was flying to Salt lake city, and when I asked if she lived there, she explained she was on a speaking tour. I asked if she was a writer, she paused, and then said "no, I'm the chimpanzee lady". We talked for 10 minutes or so, and she was lovely to chat with. There was a nice calm, grounded air about her. no pretense or arrogance. I let her know several times how much she is respected by myself and all of my friends. Her work will not be forgotten.

Stays with you forever. She respected animals - wish there were more like her.

She was my inspiration in so many ways.

She may be gone, but her spirit lives on in all of us whose lives she touched so deeply. I'm so grateful she was here.

Your legacy will carry on.

Afterwards there was a question and answer session and I was lucky enough to ask her a question.

I have no idea what I asked her--I just know I wanted a chance to briefly interact with Jane Goodall.

A wonderful steward for the earth and its creatures. She will be missed.

to zoological research that started in the late 50s and early 60s, every single field seemed to change in ways both radical and subtle.

Gone was the nearly exclusive focus on dominant males, to be replaced by a focus on how males became dominant and what their rel function was and not just among apes, it extended to species like horses and chickens.

Goodall was in for the vanguard of those changes, her meticulous observations laying the foundation for much future research.

Jane was a student of Louis Leakey, who recognized that her interest in primates -- especially chimps -- was vital for an understanding of early hominids. Another of his students, Diane Fossey, studied gorillas.

My older daughter, who currently lives in Europe with her husband an 1 year old, has loved Jane since she was little. She had met with Jane a few years back. Anyhow, my daughter sells paintings for money to pay for airline tickets. This morning -- and their mornings come earlier than our's! -- she was doing a painting of Jane. I the sky at the top, on one side is the sun, the moon on the other. In between, she put an hour glass, as Jane had told her that time is running out if everyone does not do their part to restore nature -- including human nature.

and now I'm a bumbling cryer again after SCE passing yesterday. Two great humans on this planet have passed and I'm grateful to have witnessed the love they gave to us all.

They both lived as we all should aspire: an open heart and a curious mind.

Rest in peace.

She was a great example for ALL of us, human and otherwise.

She gave so much of herself to the entire world. She has been a hero and shining light for me since I took a Cultural Anthropology course in college and learned of Leakey's Angels. Rest easy and safe passage good soul.💔

There are few people in history and current times that deserve the title “Great”. Most of the historical figures that wear that badge earned it by killing huge amounts of people.

The great Jane Goodall did it by being a groundbreaking scientist and a truly great human being.

A hero. A humanitarian. An all around true Christian. I have a letter she wrote to me over 30 years ago. I still cherish it

It just looked interesting. That began my interest in her

Back in 1987 she gave a talk at the Sedgwick County Zoo. There were just 10 - 20 people there. It was embarrassing because I didn't want her to think we were just another podunk town. Nevertheless, she was very gracious. It also gave us a good chance to interact with her.

I remember she was a guest on Colbert's show a couple of years ago. She said Chimpanzees were not her favorite animal as they were too much like humans. She liked dogs because they have such unconditional love.

Safe journey Ms Goodall. The world is a poorer place without you.

I wish I were as lucky. They will not have to suffer the agony of watching our country being destroyed. Oh well, since I will have no ACA I'll be joining them sooner than later. Peace at last!!! I'm looking forward to it now.

R-I-P Jane

I once got a book signed by her.

I’ve loved her since I was a kid. I think the thing she taught me most is that animals, even the most odd to us, are not that different. If you watch and respect their needs and what they communicate to you, it feels spiritual, connected to the earth and the essence of life itself.

I’ll miss her. But hearing she died of “natural causes” while on tour makes me smile. She deserved a kind departure.

She was amazing. A uniquely gifted human being. Jane Goodall was the best of us, for sure.

that Richard Leakey sent out 3. I have heard them called the "Trimates" or "Leakey's Angels", but they all opened windows to worlds most of us will never see and became tireless advocates for the chimpanzees, the gorillas and the orangutans. Then they campaigned to help us save ourselves.
So to me it is fitting that we remember Jane Goodall, Diane Fossey, and Birute Galdakis. Birute is less well known, and is still with us, and is just as fascinating a person.

She was one of the greats and she will be missed.

I read her books. I saved the National Geographic magazines that had articles about her. She is one of the greats.

I wish more people lived as honestly and lovingly as you.

Such a lovely human being who did such ground-breaking work. Made me cry too.

Our beloved Jane Goodall has inspired me my entire life.I had an opportunity to see her last year and I just didn’t have the funds. I’ll do some research to see where she would want charitable donations to be made in her honor. A comforting thought to me is that she and Koko are back in each other‘s arms and able to talk to one another again. Imagine that conversation! It further comforts me to think that, perhaps my late parents have the opportunity to meet her. My father just adored the Lowland Gorillas. I know if they got to meet, Jane would teach him how to communicate with them too.

Jane Goodall's curiosity, dedication, and activism inspired millions. Our planet needs people like her now more than ever.

Most people cannot say that about themselves. We're all important in our own ways, but few of us leave behind such a consequential legacy when we die as she did.

She will be missed, of course, but her legacy will live on, long after her death.
