I'm home from the hospital.

Had surgery to put my extremely fractured wrist back together. Have s cast and a splint. The doctors believe my fractured patella will heal by itself in about 6 weeks. I can walk with an immobilizer brace, but walking without bending your knee is a challenge.
My husband will have to do some cooking and has to inject me 2x a day in my belly with a blood thinner.
Had some fun joking with the nurses every time they gave me Tylenol.
Thanks for the good wishes. Keep them coming please!
PT and OT start tomorrow.

Here's to an excellent recovery, even if it takes time. The wrist is sooo complex!

I had to be in rehab bc of living alone after a tri fractured ankle, and surgery. Yeah, I got metal.

As for OT, PT. I've had two major accidents about 20 years (rotator cuff, then ankle) - as long as you do your exercises like 96% of the time you'll heal excellently. So just a teeny bit of slouching off is ok when you absolutely don't want to do them, but that's all! Otherwise keep at it.

As an aside - and I should look it up - at the big rehab room, there was this what looked like a 15" inch complex wooden "sculpture" on the wide windowsill. What the heck would that he doing there?

I never asked but it could be for wrist, and especially hand/finger rehab. All different angles and curves to manipulate, and approximate so many different finger movements at first. Then obviously handing items, etc

While I'm sure not happy having gone through what I did - at least I can give encouragement, and advise to others.
And yeah I had those blood thinner belly shots in rehab. A bit ouchie!

Keep us posted on your progress. 👍

I think. Sometimes I get a bit confused about RFKJr's word salad.

I am so glad you are doing well.

Now the fun starts with OP and PT.
But they are fantastic and will be the ones to get you mobile
and functioning again. They are the greatest people on the recovery team.

Are you injecting Lovenox? I had to do that after blood clots in my leg. The hospital told me they’d release me, but I’d have to inject myself. I told them I’d inject myself in the eye if that’s what it took to get out of the hospital.

You really want maximum recovery but there sometimes are limits to coverage with te PT & OT as they only have to get you to an "average" set of abilities. You have to balance taking your time with making steady progress.

I'm a clutz and have broken more bones than I care to remember. I often joke that I hope to die in a freak dancing accident.

Be sure to listen to your OT and PT therapists and make sure to do your independent exercises because they will make a world of difference. Plus, seeing the progress you make will keep your spirits up.

All the best with everything, Danmel! Stay encouraged!
