I'm a poll worker in a small town in Passaic County, the ONLY county in NJ that's being "monitored" by the DOJ.
The municipal clerk told me that the federal "monitors" may not enter our polling places as ONLY voters will be permitted to be in situ. They will have to be located at least 100 feet from the polling places.
And I have been reassured that ANY interference with voters will be summarily dealt with by our police department, which happens to be in the same building as my polling place.
I won't be allowed to take photos or video in the polling place, but I can outside if there is any disturbance.

(172,440 posts)I have been doing voter protection since 2004. Normally only election workers, voters and if the law allows, properly authorized poll watchers are allowed in the voting site. In Texas poll watchers have to be registered voters in the county in question and have to be certified by the party or a candidate. The asshole lady who founded True the Vote lives or lived in my county. For the 2012 election, true the Vote was going to swarm my county with True the Vote poll watchers. Poorly trained True the Vote poll watchers had caused some delays in the 2010 election in Harris County. I trained and had sufficient poll watchers out for the 2012 election to cover democratic voting precincts for election day. For early voting, I had poll watchers at key early voting sites and I went to a couple of early vote locations.
Prior to Shelby County case, the DOJ had broad authority to monitor elections in counties that had prior election issues which included my county and Harris County. The DOJ had election monitors in 8 of the key precincts and told my poll watchers not to worry about True The Vote. This was pre-Shelby County SCOTUS opinion and now the DOJ appears to not have the power to send in poll monitors in your county.
When I went to Florida in 2004, I was stationed outside the polling location and could not go in. Again, we were reacting to the 2000 election and this may not have been an efficient use of attorneys. I did have fun meeting a good number of Democratic attorneys (we had 800 out of state attorneys in the county I was stationed). The DOJ will NOT be able to do much if they are not allowed in your polling locations.
Keep us informed. I would not be surprised to see the DOJ try to bluff their way into a polling location

(10,592 posts)I was campaign manager for the Democrats running for Council in a town in Bergen County and as soon as I walked into a polling place a Republican recognized me and quickly and loudly protested my presence without credentials saying that I was "electioneering" at the polls (which I wasn't). I had gone there to bring coffee and donuts to the poll workers (including the Republicans). So I left after announcing that those who wanted coffee and donuts could come outside to the parking lot to get them.
NJ is very strict about who is allowed inside at the polls or within 100 feet of their entrances.

is an experiment attempting to intimidate a certain demographic from voting. Its no accident that the precincts being monitored are predominantly LatinX.
It will not surprise me one bit if there is heavy presence of ICE thugs near every one of the monitored precincts. And they wont be there just looking for criminals.
Just my opinion.

(163 posts)Will there be a shootout if some of these Federal Poll Thugs do something illegal and draw their guns while resisting arrest for it? Some may be prepared to act as agents provocateurs to trigger Trump's Insurrection Act when the bullets fly near the ballots.

(13,323 posts)They would send a bunch of booths w curtains that had to be set up, markers, ballots. I believe my mom would make cookies or something.
Some years it was busy in the am and after work. Smaller elections not so much.

(973 posts)the 2026 elections and 2028 elections...........only white skinned people will be allowed to vote, all others will be arrested.
The only way to truly prevent the criminal elements that are doing the corrupt Dem voting.

(12,177 posts)So I reckon its about suppressing the vote more than anything. But I could be wrong.
I grew up in NJ. Im grateful I grew up in such a diverse area of the US (not Passaic County though).
