I'll live in a state with a Democratic governor!!!!
This is such a great feeling.
Adding for clarity: I thought it would be obvious I hadn't lived in VA for the last 27 years since they have had Democratic governors in that time period. Sorry for not making that crystal clear in my excitement. Cheers! 🥂

(1,406 posts)I loved working with Governors Bob Graham and Walkin Lawton Chiles back when my civil rights advocacy programs put me alongside NAACPs Leon Russell and prompted me to run for the Florida legislature. Good memories.
Still hoping for things to turn back around, around here. Because, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."
Go Governor Abigail Spanberger!

(1,410 posts)Im in the OC, my district will be going back to the same alignment that Katie Porter represented. Lose the crazies in Coto de Caza (home of the Housewives of OC) and pick up the normal neighboring city of Irvine.

(1,410 posts)So hard not to camp out in front of her MV office and shouting insults. Her weekly updates are classic marketing, so damn hard not to call her staff and telling them they and her will need a new job in a year.

(25,221 posts)That's why I said "a state" rather than saying Virginia was finally blue. The past few months have been a breath of fresh air.
The last time I lived here, I worked on the Wilder campaign. The Dems took the trifecta then too.
This is such a different feeling from the perpetual existential dread of elections in Florida.

(44,282 posts)Lawrence Douglas Wilder (born Jan. 17, 1931) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 66th governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1994.
He was the first African American to serve as governor of a U.S. state since the Reconstruction era, and the first African American ever elected as governor.[a] He is currently a professor at the namesake Wilder School at Virginia Commonwealth University...

(3,258 posts)There are several items on their way to enactment in the VA Constitution, including codification of reproductive rights. I think a temporary override to districts (like CA Prop 50) is also underway.
The VA process requires that measure pass TWO sequential sessions of the legislature before being presented to the people for a referendum. This practically assures that this process will go forward, and I expect both of these will pass strongly when voted by the people.

(25,221 posts)My statement was accurate as is. Thanks.
SocialDemocrat61
(8,275 posts)Its important context. Readers have no way to know that you lived in Florida before Virginia.
Pacifist Patriot
(25,221 posts)The point of the post is that I have not lived in a state with a Democratic governor for 27 years. I could have lived in any combination of states for that to be an accurate statement, not just moved from Florida.
Maybe a better question would be why someone would assume I don't know who my governors have been in that time period.
SocialDemocrat61
(8,275 posts)Your profile says you live in Virginia. There is no way for anyone to know you moved there from Florida.

(25,221 posts)All the information a reasoning adult needed was there. Clearly I haven't lived in VA for the last 27 years. Does it matter where I was before now? No it does not. It's that simple and not my problem you couldn't sort that out for yourself.

From 1870 to 1966, it was all Dems all the time (i.e., no Republican Gov, Lt Gov, or AG since Reconstruction, with the last leaving office about 1870)
