Why in the world would anyone WANT to even bother to do this? To whom, to what kind of person, could this even be worth thinking about? Are some people’s lives really that empty?

Statues of R.E. Lee were nothing unusual where I grew up in Virginia. On the other hand, without the publicity, maybe 20 people in the States would have known what these pitiful garden slugs were even up to. Probably more Nederlanders than Americans would have known. I’m in that country once a week, and speak the language. And yet, this is the first I’ve heard of it.
