Sen. Jeanne Shaheen Who Caved on Shutdown Says Chuck Schumer Knew All Along

Democrat Who Caved on Shutdown Says Chuck Schumer Knew All Along
Senator Jeanne Shaheen just threw the minority leader under the bus.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen revealed that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer knew the entire time about the plan for a few Democrats to capitulate to Republicans on the government shutdown.

-snip-

“Senator Chuck Schumer, your leader in the Senate, said ‘I cannot support a continuing resolution that fails to address health care, I am voting no.’ Did you do this outside leadership, and was there a big push for you not to join the others and break the 60 threshold?” Kilmeade asked.

“No, we kept leadership informed throughout,” Shaheen responded. “And I think it’s important to remember who’s responsible for why we got into this shutdown. We are here because we are concerned about the health care costs rising significantly on millions of Americans, and we didn’t have any indication before the shutdown started that our Republican colleagues were willing to address it.”

Aside from serving as further proof that the Democrats are failing to act as an opposition party in any meaningful way, Shaheen’s comments also reveal one of two possible scenarios. Either Schumer was scheming to end the shutdown behind the scenes, only pretending to be against it while pinning the blame on the eight people who aren’t up for reelection anytime soon, or he has no control over his party. Either way, it proves the need for Democrats to jettison the minority leader.

This only confirms my suspicions from the start. And the suspicions of many others who post on different message boards, mainly Reddit. The 8 were sacrificial lambs.

There was already reporting on it. This is just another leftwing news outlet trying to sensationalize it by feeding their users more conspiracy theories about what happened.

Let Bernie Sanders be minority leader.

He'll either be a great change or certain people will see that he's no savior and either they'll throw flames at him too or maybe finally come to the realization that you can expect only so much from a party you give absolutely no federal power to.

We wouldn't be having ANY of these conversations if Hillary or Kamala had been elected.

They'd never give it to Schiff in part because he's too new in the Senate, but that's who I'd want. Or Liz Warren.

the fallout from this betrayal of the Dem voters by voting no when all along knowing what was going to happen.
Sen. Schumer needs to be replaced, and I don't say this lightly, I have the highest respect for the man, but what happened last night is the straw that broke this camel's back, figuratively speaking.

...what a fucking sham this is.

Eight senators, Dems and independents, broke ranks. Schumer has as much power to stop that as any majority leader has had in this century, which is next to none. The fact that they held out this long is the testament to his leadership, not that these politically fraught members caved.

Pasting that onto Schumer is the height of sophistry, and really just absolute bullshit.

collective performance over the past two months, they have their heads very very far up their own asses.

There seems to be an enormous disconnect between people who spend their days in the Capitol and everyone else, in terms of how legislative votes are viewed. Most voters are not going to listen to any "Now see here, what you need to understand about what we did is..." kind of talk. Voters are scared and angry, to a degree that those in DC seem not to quite grasp.

Of course Schumer knew. He either orchestrated this and or was aware it was going to happen. Either way, he needs to GO.

Is anyone going to tell me Schumer isn’t aware of the rethug efforts to sneak in a national abortion ban into the bill as Senator Ron Wyden is saying? BS. Schumer will sell women out on this effort too.

Don't fight for anything unless the outright lying, badfaulith merchants on the other side give you a hint that you may win.

Got it.

I forgot that the colonists knew from the start that King George was open to American Independence.

I also forgot that the Confederacy didn't really mean it when they left the union. They were also looking forward to freeing all of their slaves.

Damn, I must have been asleep in history class on the day we learned that the Axis powers really wanted peace.

This strategy was also at play in every labor strike ever in the U.S. Strikes only happen when management tells you you will win.
