(Air Force nurse corps vet here - 4 years active/ 8 years reserve. Husband is Air Force Academy grad 1968, and did a full 20 as a pilot.)

What makes the desecration even worse is that it was mainly black service troops that had the duty of recovering dead soldiers of all colors from across Europe and returning them home or interring them in the various American cemeteries on the continent. At my Vet Center in last few months, his name VERY rarely mentioned anymore. I don't think that is going to result in a rush to vote for a Democrat -- but it may mean a lot of Vets sitting the next election out.

From Navy draftees (father in WWII, brother in Vietnam), this Army daughter/sister has no words, but a sign at the No Kings demonstration said it all "Are we great yet, because I just feel embarrassed."

My deepest sympathy is with the young people who have to deal the challenges of the inept leadership at the very top. The illegal orders are already flowing, from use of expensive military aircraft to "ferry" immigrants all over the world to extrajudicial murder in international waters to the abuse of the pardon power. This fish is rotting from the head.

this "president" thinks nothing of sending people into war situations... and, indeed, starting wars (as in Venezuela), and doesn't give a crap who or how many are killed because of his words and actions. I see this as simply the same exploitation fervor of all billionaires. We only exist to carry out their desires.

I'm also disillusioned that my former service, the Air Force, has become so christian nationalist. In the days I served, that would have been unthinkable. We allowed everyone their religious preference, even to the point of (eventually) allowing sacred Circles for Wiccan worship on base. No more these days. If those Circles still exist, they're regularly debased and scarred by christians.

As a veteran, there is nothing this administration has done that has not sent my blood pressure to sky high levels. I can't convey to you the depth of the feelings I had when I saw the destruction of our East Wing of the WH. But that *was* just a symbol made of blocks and building material. Even more is the determined fight he has dug himself into to deny people food and other survival needs. We, as a nation, went from the premiere country fighting for Democracy, rights, and freedoms of all people to starving, kidnapping, and killing its own people. I honestly don't remember any of that in the oath I declared when I went into the Air Force, nor as I started a 20 year career in the DoD Civil Service.

And that there are people in our services who not only ascribe to his theories, but all but worship trump as a god is so disillusioning and causes not only my anger, but intense sorrow that so many people have lost their way in this world.

But I took an oath and still honor it. I am sick that our men in women in uniform are subject to the whims of a monstrous sick fuck and his maladroit minions.
