Well, this afternoon may be interesting to say the least. ---or maybe not.

The fact that Trump is calling Mace and Boebert today pleading with them to remove their names from the Epstein petition at the last minute tells you everything you need to know about how incriminating the info in the files is to him and his cronies.

Trump desperately pressuring Republicans who signed the Epstein petition before Grijalva signs it at 4:10 PM when it will then be too late to stop it.

(17,059 posts)Trump is going to be threatening them; not pleading with them.

(951 posts)Boebert and Mace have been softened up to fold already. Today they're just going to hear the specifics of "or else."

(925 posts)Republicans will never come up with a better program than the ACA. The only real answer is Single-Payer and they seem to be "over my dead body" about that.

(547 posts)serious threats. "Silver or lead" as the saying goes. However, he has been weakened by recent events, and the chances of them holding firm are better today than they were a few months ago.

(9,020 posts)As soon as the petition receives 218 signature, it is officially entered into the record and members can no longer remove their signature.
Grijalva is set to be sworn in around 4:00 pm and as soon as that happens, my understanding is she will immediately sign the petition.

(9,020 posts)there will be another Democrat elected to the House via a Special Election Runoff in Texas in January (both candidates in the runoff are Democrats). There is also a Special Election in December in Tennessee which is likely to be won by the Republican, but there is at least an extremely slight but nonzero chance for the Democrat to win.

My money is on MTG because shes been a pain in his bountiful butt over the shutdown, the Georgia Senate race and Epstein. Plus she didnt get a pleading presidential call.

(60,791 posts)In addition to a possible court case, it would take months to replace them. Right now there are 219 Republicans and 214 Democrats with 2 vacant seats. There would then be 217 Republicans to our 214 if they were expelled. One of the vacant seats is a run off in January between 2 Democrats, the other is the TN seat where Republicans are favored.
So, until elections to replace these two, on any piece of legislation, he could lose at most ONE representative and if, in a miracle, we win TN, he can't lose any with 217 R to 216 D. Not to mention, given their dysfunction, could we get one Republican to become independent and caucus with us?
