(32,303 posts)Huge credit to those opposition team players, who absorbed the blows that officer delivered, and then just walked away. Pretty fucking obvious who the adults were in that altercation.

Besides that, what kind of imbecile instigates a physical confrontation against young, national class athletes wearing armor?

(68,202 posts)taught by their parents never to get involved in anything with a white cop, especially a Texas cop whose goal is obviously to start something with black young men. They behaved intelligently and maturely, which made that stupid cop look even worse for his disgusting behavior.

(3,367 posts)He could just as easily stood outside the tunnel and waited for the team to pass -- would have taken all of 30 seconds.
But, hey, when you made C's and D's in high school and the big kids picked on you and now you have a badge and a gun, it's payback time.

Way to set an example of how fucked up Texas law enforcement is!
They just can't wait to get violent!

(4,050 posts)Clearly friends.
A white woman walking toward us could have easily gone around them. But that's not what she did. She plowed right between them, knocking them aside.
I am a slow processor and was very shy back then, and by the time I understood what had just happened she was down the block. I was too stunned to do the right thing and either say something kind to the two young men or to confront the woman. I was indignant and my hands clenched and unclenched yet no one outside of myself would have known that. But I've never forgotten what happened maybe 55 years ago, and my knowledge that I didn't do SOMEthing to stand up for human decency. Anytime I consider my regrets in life, that's one that comes to mind.
That was during the height of the Civil Rights Movement or shortly after Dr. King was assassinated. Sad that white racists still are ignorant, entitled, and hateful.

(4,050 posts)During one of Barack Obama's run for president one of my acquaintances, a mild-mannered older white guy dropped by the Democratic tent some of us were manning during the election. He told us how he'd been at the grocery store in Dripping Springs and ended up arrested and charged with criminal mischief.
Why? A pickup parked by his with decals and anti-Dem messaging. He took it in stride, admiring the artistry even, until he rounded the truck and saw what was on the other side Obama depicted as an ape. At which point he lost it, picked up a tire iron and started hitting the truck.
In 2008, Obama got approximately 43.7% of the vote in Texas. In 2012 that dropped to about 41.4%. I've been reading about how Fox Noise is attacking Jasmine Crockett so much that they think she'd be the best Democrat to run for U.S. Senate for the seat that John Cornyn holds now. I wish I agreed. I've wondered if Fox News isn't setting Texas Dems up, if she gets into the race, to vote for her in the primary, which she could win because of her name recognition. But no Dem has run successfully for a statewide office in a generation. Barack Obama was likable. Crockett has high negatives for a reason. She has been a consistent voice attacking Trump and other Republicans which is why she could win the primary, but there's no chance she could win statewide.
My purple county has people active in Three Percenters, Proud Boys, and other extremist groups. Racist incidents and threats have occurred several times over the last few years, including in my small town. And more counties in Texas are red, than purple or blue.
I think of the old folk tale about Brer Rabbit who'd been caught and just begged his captor repeatedly to "please don't throw me in that briar patch." So of course, that was exactly where the cruel hunter threw him right where Brer Rabbit wanted to be thrown, where he could make his escape. Is that Brer Rabbit ploy the same psychology behind Fox News inveighing so much against Jasmine Crockett? I wouldn't put it past them.

(4,050 posts)I guess I wasn't experienced enough or knowledgeable enough at the time to know that.
My family were long-time Austin liberals, and I don't think I conceived that Austin might be anything other than a decent, liberal city.
