National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom dies after DC shooting, Trump says

WASHINGTON, DC — One of the two National Guard members shot in what authorities described as a "targeted" ambush near the White House has died, President Donald Trump announced Thursday.

Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was a member of the West Virginia National Guard. She and Andrew Wolfe, 24, were attacked by a lone gunman on Wednesday outside a Metro station in the heart of the nation's capital, law enforcement authorities have said.

The troops were part of a "high-visibility patrol,” about two blocks from the White House, when the shooting occurred. The suspect’s motive has not been determined. He was shot by a nearby National Guard member and remained hospitalized as of Thursday.

During the eras of protests regarding the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War, civilians were killed on the streets and campuses in this country, but no military service members were killed or received life-threatening injuries. Deployment of the military to maintain the peace in those eras was arguably necessary. In the current time when this tragedy has occurred, the deployment is not necessary. It is window dressing and coverup for a failed, grifting presidency.

I wish you well, Irish_Dem. You have the ability to keep up with these drastic developments. I have been holding back in order to preserve my peace of mind.

He is setting up the military for ambush by the people they are supposed to serve.

And all of it is just a political stunt, a reality TV show for Trump.
Where he is the star and everyone else is an expendable prop.

I think reading and talking about it helps my peace of mind.
Or else I begin to think the entire world has gone mad.

The US military prides itself on CIVILIAN leadership at the very top of the command structure.

This did not have to happen. They never should have been there.

Our grandson is being deployed there. It all just makes me sick.

I want to live in the alternate universe where the Trump name never existed.

Sarah Beckstrom, a 20-year-old U.S. Army specialist, passed away today from wounds she received when a gunman ambushed her and her colleague while they served America in the National Guard yesterday.

24 year-old Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe of U.S. Air Force remains in critical condition.

This is a tragedy on so many levels.

The suspect in the shooting, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, age 29, entered the USA in September 2021 under humanitarian parole via Biden's Operation Allies Welcome program and was vetted.

If you haven't OD on Kool-aid you should recall back in 2021, Trump and his MAGA GOP were extremely critical of Joe Biden for what they called leaving behind our allies in Afghanistan.

Lakanwal should have been vetted again under the TRUMP administration and was granted asylum under the TRUMP administration in April 2025.

Trump and Vance want Americans to now hate people in America from Afghanistan.

Hate doesn't stop murders, gunfire or help people with in any way, shape or form

Hate causes more of the same.
