Tina Peters applies for Trump pardon, lawyer says

Tina Peters, the former Mesa County clerk who is serving a Colorado prison sentence, has applied for a pardon from President Donald Trump, according to her lawyer.

Peters was convicted for her role in a scheme to breach the security of her own election equipment in 2021, part of an effort to find evidence that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

An application for a presidential pardon was filed “about two weeks ago,” Peter Ticktin, her Florida-based attorney, told Newsline Wednesday.

Presidential pardons are universally understood to apply only to federal cases. Peters was convicted on state charges. But Ticktin argues that the Constitution’s references to the United States apply to the individual states as well as the country as a whole.

Yeah, good luck with that shyster.

If nothing else, this shyter's law license needs to be yanked and he needs to be disbarred.

against CO public officials and prosecuted in state court to the fullest extent of the law.

5. Trump will still pardon Peters, arguing he has the constitutional right to do so.

I wouldn't be surprised if he dispatches an FBI SWAT team and a horde of ICE goons to bust her out of prison.

but the stark reality is that he has no jurisdiction to do so and any thugs he tries to send will be met and turned around.

7. it is worth a try. since the law means nothing anymore she may be hoping drumpf uses the military to attack CO

if they refuse to free her.

8. I seriously doubt that the military would do that,

that would immediately trigger articles of impeachment in the House, I believe that action would turn a lot of repigs openly against him.

I can't see any military officer obeying such an order and yes, I know that they're obeying orders to sink boats, but this would be totally different, they would be attacking an American state prison, which would cause wide spread civil disobedience.

Just my opinion.

9. a more realistic (less factious) answer is that they may be hoping drumpf

threatens to cut off partial or all Federal funding to the state if they refuse to pardon her, or some other threat he can use for leverage, like shuttering military bases and moving them.

there's no guarantee he does anything but it falls under the "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take" caveat.

10. I guess that would be part of his threat of "harsh measures" from a couple of months ago.

Flim Flam Man doesn't give 2 shits about Peters except how it can help him with his base, if it doesn't help him, then he wouldn't care, he wouldn't even be talking about it.

I don't think CO is intimidated by him, Gov. Polis has basically given him the middle finger and I don't see him changing his mind.

Tina Peters was charged by a Repub. Prosecutor, she was tried and convicted by a Mesa County jury, which tends to be a repub. county, so there were certainly repub. jurors, and she was sentenced by a repub. judge.
She is exactly where she belongs and if the feds want her, then they can have her, after she finishes her state sentence.

12. If Chump pardons her

and CO won’t release her, then what?

This admin generally does whatever the hell it wants.

Chump could say release her or we’re coming to get her.

Release her or else.

13. He could try that, but

there would probably be bloodshed and that would set off a firestorm in Congress and the general public.
This shyster attorney should be charged with making terroristic threats towards CO officials and he should be stripped of his law license.

Gov. Polis isn't going to bend over for Flim Flam Man and release Tina, she's exactly where she belongs, put there by a Repub. DA, a Repub. jury and a Repub. judge and her sentence is supported by the repub. election officials.

It would be a meaningless act, though it would be interesting to see if it went to court.
