Recommend this documentary about FDRs actions in the 24 hours after the attack. It is a master class in leadership.

(8,391 posts)Almost 25 years later, I still have the pictures of the people I knew who died at the Pentagon. Nothing happy about it.

(27,329 posts)While our then NYS office moved out of there to Brooklyn years before 2001 - I worked in the NE corner office on the 73rd flr in South Tower 2 for a year '80 -'81.
The second plane plane emerged about 2 floors above ftom where we would have been w/o the move.
It was a hideous day for almost everyone.

(1,415 posts)Have you visited the USS Arizona memorial? U.S. Navy vet. here. I've been to the memorial. Happy is a poor choice of words to describe the anniversary of the attack upon Pearl Harbor and U.S. Forces.

(22,747 posts)It is offensive to those of us who served and those who know fully what happened that day. It wasn't happy. And does a disservice to those who died there.

(22,747 posts)there isn't one damn thing "happy" about Pearl Harbor. Seriously, consider revising. No offense, but it sounds Trumpish.
That's from a Navy vet who's saluted the Arizona Memorial a few times on passage into and out of Pearl.

(60,442 posts)When we set the date, he emailed back: "a date that will live in infamy."
I think the phrase will be known by Americans with an IQ in three digits for centuries to come, even long after people remembering the original event that brought it about.

(9,943 posts)found out about the attack. After that they all were saddened and confused as to what it meant in their lives. Everyone went home early . for some life was never the same.
Mother was upset because the party was a bust but she knew .
Her brother and several cousins went off to war.
