(2,630 posts)Indiana was already one of the worst gerrymanders in the country, and the reality is that this gerrymander-on-steroids could well have backfired on the Republicans. This was not necessarily a vote of conscience, decency, or respect for our democracy. The Republicans have a good thing going in Indiana, with supermajority control as a result of EXTENSIVE gerrymandering at the legislature level. In the end, this was more about self-preservation in the face of a possible 2026 blue wave.
But it's still a massive rebuke for Mr. Trump, whose influence among fellow Republicans seems to be waning.

(2,630 posts)and giving Trump the middle finger. Trump was able to maintain control when he could pick off wayward Republicans one at a time. But he can't go after 10 per day.
Moreover, his biggest weapon was that he would make sure they got a big primary challenge. That has become a lame threat. What is Trump's record on endorsements in 2025? About 2 for 30, something like that? It is so bad that politicians probably secretly hope that Trump DOES endorse somebody against them. It will make them look more reasonable in comparison, and that is where the public is now.
There has been a radical shift in the landscape in the past 60 days, but nobody in the White House or the legacy media seems to have noticed.
