General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt is clear now from the reporting that
Jack Smith said he had evidence and proof of crimes "beyond a reasonable doubt". It is also clear "beyond a reasonable doubt" that is precisely why "I Lean" Cannon has sat on the Jack Smith report and done everything possible to keep that report and evidence from being seen. Also clear is why the GQP doesn't want Jack to testify publicly. I believe they will try to order everything destroyed much like the courts ordered in the Scott Walker case in Wisconsin. Basically the court was saying, regarding Wisconsin/Walker, all of the collusion was actually free speech protected by the 1st Amendment and so releasing that material after the case was thrown out would be improper to the rights of the people investigated.
So the bottom line was the court saying "Free and brave enough to speak the words but too cowardly for voters to hear the words." So years of investigative work and clear proof of collusion, illegal coordination, misuse of taxpayer provided resources etc. all went down the drain.

(4,854 posts)Scathing though not defamatory since the truth of the allegations is well supported.
Grand juries in two locations believed what it said.
Every honest citizen could believe it upon reading it and be grateful for the thorough explanation.
Only the election kept Trump from having the book thrown at him.

The current Supreme Court believes he cant he be charged for speeding

(1,257 posts)Except in unusual cases (if you're REALLY speeding vs just kinda doing so)speeding tickets are more considered a misdemeanor than a crime. Grant didn't show up to challenge his ticket (much like most people who get them nowadays and don't challenge them - but aren't labeled as felons).
In a tangent because it's one I'm familiar with as a lover of local history....in the early 20th century one of the Mayors of Los Angeles ("Pinkie" Snyder) was also cited for speaking and commended the officers for doing their duty. He's not generally thought of as a felon either.

(16,186 posts)Can you give us some context given the era Grant lived?

(2,994 posts)When he became president, he continued the pastime, often down the main thoroughfares of DC.
While there were no cars back then, they still had the concept of you dont drive a horse (let alone horse and carriage) full speed through a crowded thoroughfare during the day.
Twice he was ticketed (I want to say the cop was black) for speeding, though the officer was apologetic about it. Not only did Grant pay the fines, he specifically checked afterwards to make sure the officer wasnt punished for giving him a ticket.
Now some may say that this doesnt really matter. It could be argued that there is a difference between a speeding ticket and a felony. Perhaps. I personally think you can extrapolate larger policies from smaller ones. If a president can be charged with a minor infraction, why should he be immune from ones that are 100 times more serious?

(201 posts)There once was a counsel named Smith,
Who said, Ive got proofevery myth.
Beyond doubt, he swore,
Crimes stacked to the floor,
Which explains why they buried that shit.
Judge Cannon, who leans like a drunk,
Sat hard on the file like a punk.
If sunlight got in,
Theyd all look like sin
So she locked it away in the trunk.
They wont let Jack testify live,
Cause the truth wouldnt fucking survive.
If it helped their case,
Theyd give him a place
Instead they just stall and connive.
The GQPs scared shitless, its plain,
Of facts said aloud on the chain.
They cry witch hunt! loud,
But wont face a crowd
Funny how cowards complain.
Wisconsin already ran this same con,
With Walker and courts playing dumb.
They screamed free speech!
While shredders went reech
And the evidence vanished, all gone.
Speak all you want, said the court with a grin,
But voters? Nah, fuck letting them in.
Be brave, make the call,
Just dont show it to all
Democracys messy as sin.
So years of hard work hit the drain,
Proof of collusion down memory lane.
Tax cash abused,
Coordination excused
And the liars all walked off clean.
I, too, believe that the truth will prevail.

It is possible for the 11th Circuit to remove her if she continues to stonewall taking action. She may order it withheld, destroyed etc. which can also be appealed.

They fear the truth for good reason. To quote Dean Burch, who described George H.W. Bushs physical and emotional reaction to the release of the "Smoking Gun" tape in August 1974:
"He broke out in assholes and shit himself to death."
