with apologies to the movie the 10 commandents
Let the name of Trump be stricken from every book and tablet. Stricken from every pylon and obelisk of America. Let the name of Trump be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of man, for all time.

(14,344 posts)Benedict Arnold was an excellent general before he went to the losing side. You can't really say that Shitler was "excellent" at anything.

(9,345 posts)And even for that he needed help.
Arnold was not only an excellent general but a trusted one. His defection came as quite a shock to Washington.

(2,375 posts)I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who saidTwo vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Justice matters.

And while Im celebrating, Ill be suggesting this very activity to my Indivisible sisters* and brothers to do likewise.
We will spread out across wherever and politely work towards REMOVING his damn name from wherever it shits - uh, I mean sits.

(53,206 posts)as a grim reminder of how easily democracy can fail. But yes, remove it from every building or site, just don't erase him completely from history.
Bring back the saying "Never forget" from World War II, because apparently many people have already.

(5,518 posts)I can already see that all of the lessons that we should have learned will be forgotten by the same people who can't believe that our country is in the mess that it's in. The authoritarian reich-wing will count on Democratic voters not remembering what happened under Trump. And too many Democratic voters are already in a hurry to forget.
PatSeg
(53,206 posts)We live in a time when memories are very short. People are overstimulated and barraged with media everywhere they turn. How quickly people have forgotten the pandemic and Trump's disastrous first term.
As for forgetting the pain, suffering, and destruction of World War II, most of the people who lived it are gone now, so we have to rely on education, which apparently has failed in many instances.

(11,673 posts)What? Voted for Trump?, no no I don't even know who that is... what are you talking about?
But otherwise, yes I absolutely agree with you. By appropriate custom, his portrait needs to be in the White House, and no, none of us have to like it but I can live with it.
But otherwise, his entire family would be best served, and would best serve America, if we never saw any of them in public ever again.

(2,901 posts)Free name changes for anyone named "Donald" at all Drivers License bureaus and passport offices.
Can't automatically change them all to :Adolf (much as my sense of humor would appreciate it), because too many of them would be flattered by that change. So I'm thinking of "Arnold", as in "Benedict Arnold"
So maybe we make up two sets of forms, one to petition to change their name to "Benedict", one to change it to "Arnold"
And maybe another option, too, for something a little more ethnic, like "Ernesto".
Or maybe "Ulysses" in honor of US Grant. Methinks that won't be too popular south of the Mason-Dixon line.
