Even as most of us have no idea what it even actually means as far as a societal model.

I still believe our best chance for overwhelming wins at the ballot box is a POOR vs RICH message.
Easy to point out how Rs cater to the wealthy and never the working poor. If 60% of Americans live
paycheck to paycheck as I've read, majority of voters are the working poor.

... "turned off by socialism" are low-wattage intellects too lazy to even look up the definition of the word. In simple terms, it means putting the best interests of people ahead of the best interests of corporations, whose interests seldom, if ever, coincide with those of the population at large. I've done business with corporatists for 60 years; I know what makes 'em tick.
The USSR gave socialism a bad name, but socialist concepts are at work every day in America; in fact, the nation could not survive without them.
Bernie is one of my senators; I've met him and spoken with him on a few occasions. Those that criticize him for not introducing as many bills as they think he should, forget what a senator's primary purpose is: He puts his constituents first, and I know this from direct personal experience.

government ownership of the means of production.

A senator's primary purpose is to legislate.

... but I don't think either of those points are valid. They are what Republicans would have you believe. Don't let 'em gaslight you.

Go back to school. Learn some basic political science. And try to understand that everyone does not get their own definition of socialism, and their own definition of the job description of Congress people. Try to understand that not everyone wants AOC and Bernie shoved down their throat. My governor is Pritzker. I know him and have worked to get him elected and keep him in office. My senators are Durbin and Duckworth. Both are accessible. I have campaigned and voted for them.

On edit: Take an economics course, too.
