Women control household spending and purchase decisions so advertising to them made more sense than Nader and Donahue who were bashing corporate consumerism.Oprah and MacLane have instant recognition for instant engagement.Donahue had to develop the topic and hope the viewer remained through the next break.

Advertising changed television to suit itself and networks let public service go extinct in order to survive against subscription cable. PBS could replace some of what was lost but government subsidy and viewer donations were like a small subscriber base.Donahue was on PBS and long form news that develops engagement and did not have instant engagement shock news.

UNESCO and did a lot of work in Africa. She recounted when Oprah opened a school there and was showing up, maybe for the opening, or just after, I forget (has been a long time.).
