The Longest Suicide Note in American History -- Anne Applebaum

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/12/national-security-strategy-democracy/685270/

The Trump administration’s new National Security Strategy targets liberal democracy itself.

ast year, a team of American diplomats from the State Department’s Global Engagement Center traveled to two dozen countries and signed a series of memoranda. Along with their counterparts in places as varied as Italy, Australia, and Ivory Coast, they agreed to jointly expose malicious and deceptive online campaigns originating in Russia, China, or Iran.

This past September, the Trump administration terminated these agreements. The center’s former head, James Rubin, called this decision “a unilateral act of disarmament,” and no wonder: In effect, the United States was declaring that it would no longer oppose Russian influence campaigns, Chinese manipulation of local politics, or Iranian extremist recruitment drives. Nor would the American government use any resources to help anyone else do so either.

The recent publication of the Trump administration’s new National Security Strategy showed that this decision was no accident. Unilateral disarmament is now official policy. Because—despite its name—this National Security Strategy is not really a strategy document. It is a suicide note. If the ideas within it are really used to shape policy, then U.S. influence in the world will rapidly disappear, and America’s ability to defend itself and its allies will diminish. The consequences will be economic as well as political, and they will be felt by all Americans.

. . .

... all of his malignant machinations not only service his evil schemes, but also those of his lord and master, Vladimir Putin. Putin has hated America all his life, and it very likely the biggest reason he joined the KGB. He is insane and evil down to his DNA, but he ain't stupid. He knows he'd get wiped off the face of the Earth in a shooting war with the US, so he's been attacking us from within for years. Then he had the opportunity to install his useful idiot in the Oval Office, and the rest is history. "The Manchurian Candidate" became reality.
Trump is the worst thing to happen to this country since the Civil War, and the sooner we're rid of him, the better will be our chances of recovering from this unmitigated disaster, and the Republican Party will be dead forever.

... doth protesteth too much. He'd already given the game away with statements like, "Russia, if you're listening..." Yeah, they were listening alright.
And then there was the delegation of Republicans that visited Moscow in 2018, and on the 4th of July, for Chrissake! The volume of supporting evidence of Trump's treachery is staggering. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for less than what this evil fuck has done.
But the ignorant fools that still support him are just as bad and deserve NO mercy or forgiveness.
