Blue Origin astronaut reveals depression after 'tsunami of harassment'

A Vietnamese-American astronaut has opened up about her depression after she received a "tsunami of harassment" following the world's first all-female space trip earlier this year.

Amanda Nguyen - a 34-year-old scientist and civil rights activist - was part of the 11-minute Blue Origin space flight, which also included pop star Katy Perry and Bezos's wife, Lauren Sánchez, among its crew.

The much-derided flight was criticised by some for its expense and environmental impact.

Speaking about the experience, Ms Nguyen - who became the first Vietnamese woman to go to space - said the backlash saw her dreams buried under "an avalanche of misogyny".

Yes, Jeff Bezos is an annoying parasite who only did this as a PR stunt.

That does not mean it’s ok to threaten, harass, or be a weirdo to the people who went on the flight. You can hold a generally correct (imo) opinion and then go too far and act worse than the original offense.

Also, in general, someone committing a faux pas doesn’t mean that it’s ok to go and destroy their lives, threaten them, etc. People on social media tend to act over the top and like psychopaths at any form of perceived offense, and, all acts are treated as being “worse than Hitler” (sarcasm) despite being only minor transgressions.
