Nearly 3,000 pounds of ground beef recalled in 6 states over possible E. coli contamination
Nearly 3,000 pounds of ground beef across six states was recalled on Saturday due to possible E. coli contamination, the Department of Agriculture said.
Idaho-based Mountain West Food Group recalled 2,855 pounds of raw ground beef, sold under the Forward Farms brand in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania and Washington. A routine inspection identified the presence of E. coli O26 in ground beef samples, according to a release from the USDAs Food Safety and Inspection Service issued on Dec. 27. The recalled 16-ounce ground beef packages were produced on Dec. 16. They can be identified by a use or freeze by date of Jan. 13, 2026, and EST 2083 listed on the packaging.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness from consuming the product, the USDA said. To stay safe, consumers should either properly dispose of the ground beef or return it to where it was purchased. Always wash hands and surfaces thoroughly after handling raw meat to prevent cross-contamination.
E. coli is a type of bacteria that naturally lives in the intestines of humans and animals. And while most strains are harmless, some can cause serious illness. Given the contamination, the USDA advises those who consumed the affected ground beef across those six states to monitor themselves for signs of E. coli infection. Harmful strains of the bacteria can cause symptoms such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.

I live in Washington State but I've never heard of the brand so I guess I'm okay.
