Obviously, time will tell how this will unfold and how Venezuela will respond, if ever.
For now, I'm trying to understand how this changes the political environment.
Trump stole another country's president, and the operation was successful. There were no casualties. It went as well as you'd hope a military operation would go. To me, that is points in Trump's favor. He greenlit a brazen military mission and nothing went wrong. He and that party will completely brag about how they cleanly captured a dictator and "freed" the people of Venezuela.
Beyond that, I can't help but think about whether this will change the political environment in Trump's favor. And it makes me think about what he'll keep doing because this man keeps finding new ways to surprise me (and not in a good way).

The New York Times has reported that at least 40 people, including civilians and soldiers, were killed in Saturdays US attack on Venezuela. The estimate comes from a senior Venezuelan official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The victims reportedly include a woman called Rosa González, who was killed when her three-story apartment complex was hit by a strike. Another resident was reportedly severely injured.

(3,338 posts)To me, thats further proof that Trumps is a lawless, fascist regime.
It was an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation predicated on the lie that Venezuela is responsible for Fentanyl deaths in the US.
And that Maduro might be considered a dictator doesnt justify an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation.

(12,315 posts)I don't think the illegality will be of any consequence to Trump, unfortunately.
I take it as a given that Trump will get away with all of the fuckery he does so I only focus on political environment.
