I've stopped making new links to Twitter postings. I have old links that come up in my "On this day" posts, but I won't establish new ones.
For there with slow connection tions, when I have a post that makes a reference to a Blue sky skeet, I first copy and paste the skeet as text. I set that off as an excerpt.
I follow the text of the skeet with the skeet's URL, causing the skeet to appear as it does at Bluesky. This way, people with slow connections and fast connections alike can see what was said.
Accounts I frequent:
Mike Masnick

Ken White

Kevin Kruse

(53,551 posts)My daughter was tending bar and I went to visit her. The TV was on and it was the first day of the U.S. bombing of Bagdad. It was such a surreal experience, as the few people in the bar weren't even paying any attention. I knew everything was leading up to that moment, but I still couldn't believe the U.S. was doing it. I was overwhelmed and on the verge of tears.
Then I woke up yesterday to the headlines that the U.S. was bombing Caracas and that same feeling came back, only this time it was worse, as it meant that in two decades we have learned nothing. What little hope or optimism I had just melted away and I've been on the verge of tears ever since.
I don't have another two or three decades and I hate that his could be the world I am leaving my grandchildren.

(11,223 posts)I'm not on bluesky, and I would prefer not having to wait for bluesky link to open and for video to start... It's much smoother (quicker) the way you have it set up with X. My .02 cents... I may eventually get on bluesky...
Glad you did the video and are sharing DU with the BS members!

(29,981 posts)Bluesky reminds of what DU used to be like when we had more people. Twitter before Musk took it over was a lot like what DU was like except there were a lot more right wingers than there are at Bluesky.

and set up my prefs, I was astounded to find my feed was half cat pix. It was soooooo nice to be flooded with positive posts (cmon--CATS!!!) that it really slapped me in the face with how much doomscrolling I was subjecting myself to.
Of course, bsky has gotten very political since then, too, but theres still a good percentage of just sweet things to break up the monotonycats, flowers, art, music. Great place for a palate cleanser.
Not to mention Id bailed on Twitter when space nazi bought it and needed to fill that gap.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
