respectfully I can tell you as a NYC'r I and other white NYC'rs (and others in other cities) through the decades were while usually small in numbers compared to the general population out there protesting various ills, and also trying to avoid the police, especially on horses! Scary stuff.

As far as MAGA family the only ones (if they still are) live far away from us. Life, and people can be complicated. I can get those who totally repudiate those family members, and those with a mix of wanting to someway be in touch out of lovewhile abhoring those beliefs.

He's right. At the end of the day to other countries it doesn't matter so much that some people supported him and some people didn't: the fact is he's doing bad stuff and he keeps doing it. So we need to step up our game.

Call your reps, protest, talk to your friends, family and neighbors. Make Trump the most unpopular president ever. The less popular he is the more Republicans will finally join Democrats in trying to stop him. We've seen it work as Trump's poll numbers went down we started to see a little resistance from Republicans. If you want to see more of that we'll have to get our message out.

Theoretically, democratic institutions, the system of checks and balances, and legislation should be enough to prevent a president from becoming an autocrat.

In the democratic world, there is no such a thing as a president doing whatever he wants without suffering any consequences. A Trump would never exist in a country like Brazil, Chile, or France. He would have been impeached a long time ago.

It's time to question whether the United States is not, in fact, a dictatorship. A country that is absolutely powerless before its ruler can be called anything but a democracy. If 330 million people are being held hostage by a single man, why are we treating this country like a conventional political regime?
