Sen. Amy Klobuchar may run for governor
Klobuchar is among several Minnesota Democrats considering a run for governor now that Walz has exited the race.

U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is being encouraged to run for Minnesota governor and is seriously considering it now that Tim Walz has dropped out of the race, according to a person familiar with her thinking.

Walz met with Klobuchar on Sunday, Jan. 4 before he announced the following morning that he is dropping out of the 2026 governor’s race, multiple people familiar with the meeting said.

His exit from the race forces Democrats to replace the two-term governor at the top of voters’ tickets before this fall.

As the sitting governor, Walz wasn’t facing a challenge for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party nomination for the office. His announcement will leave the office open for the first time in eight years, setting off a cascade that will reshape voters options in the 2026 elections previously expected to feature longtime Democratic incumbents running for the state’s top jobs.

6. Totally agree. And get a new Dem face to rise for the governorship. Don't just move the same people around.

I just read about an organization called Run for Something put together by millennials and Gen Zers that is trying to recruit younger candidates that appeal to younger voters as Mamdani did in NYC and develop campaign mechanisms that maximize social media that reach that same crowd. We have to do more and try new things. Having 25% of the registered Dem base not even go to the polls like in 2024 will kill us.

Edit to say, Residents of Min should decide this. Just hate losing a senate seat we already have. but yea they know what's best foe their state.

I’m not sure how I feel about that, although if there were a strong progressive anti-filibuster Democrat willing to run for her seat…

Also, she must be exhausted in the Senate where it’s a 24 hour battle against misinformation, and you can’t get stuff done. I get it. I think she is a great Senator and actually was hoping she would have been Biden’s VP pick (yes she dropped out). Quick on her feet, excellent debater, and I believe would make an excellent governor - but I am not in Minnesota, so my opinion doesn’t matter.

14. I've liked her since her run for prez. Not too moderate for the left or too left for the moderates.

I think she would have wiped the floor with Trump.

I think we lost a strong voice when he left. And it actually ended up hurting us.
