Trump and GOP slips immunity to lawsuits for pesticide makers into spending bill, upsetting some conservatives

Conservative commentator Brett Cooper took to Fox News recently to sound the alarm about House Republicans’ efforts to protect pesticide makers, telling the network that the lawmakers’ efforts were a betrayal to the MAHA movement long championed by the Trump administration and its supporters.

“House Republicans are slipping something into our new spending bill which would give immunity to huge pesticide companies,” Cooper said.

“I think it would cover 57,000 different chemicals, and these are chemicals that have been linked to cancer, Parkinson’s and infertility, and House Republicans are just slipping it in which feels like they’re giving the middle finger to MAHA. So while I am excited about getting rid of paper straws, it feels like this is a bigger issue that we should be talking about.”

The relevant provision is Section 453, which effectively blocks lawsuits against pesticide makers and hampers the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to enforce laws around regulating pesticides, according to the nonprofit organization Stand For Our Health.
