A preschool teacher was arrested on camera as soon as she finished a TV interview criticizing Donald Trump, fueling the debate over protest policing and free speech.
Jessica Plichta, 22, said she was the only person arrested among roughly 200 demonstrators at an anti-war protest in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday, hours after Nicolas Maduro was detained in Caracas by the U.S. military.
In the broadcast footage, two officers could be seen approaching from behind as she wrapped her interview with WZZM, the citys ABC affiliate, then escorted her away as she told them, I am not resisting arrest.
WZZM said an officer cited obstructing a roadway and failure to obey a lawful command, and that Plichta had been charged with failure to obey a lawful command.
Plichta later told Zeteo: I dont think its a coincidence that as soon as I finished an interview speaking on Venezuela, I was arrested.

supposed to stand for.
"All men are created equal" said Jefferson, the slave owner and arguably the father of white supremacy.
For so long have people said "look at our bright shiny ideals!" (and don't look too closely at the reality). But we were working toward fulfilling those great ideals, right? That loophole did a lot of heavy lifting, and there was a lot of hope that progress was being made.
Which would win out? The democratic ideals or white nationalism and fascism?
Now we know how it all turns out.

Now they don't even try to lie and hide it any more.
And they are getting much much more greedy and cruel.
They used to throw us a few crumbs.

(19,722 posts)They paid for passage on the ships that some of them owned. They came from England as they were tired of paying taxes on everything. Paying taxes for the sheriffs and patrols for the public safety and paying for roads and such. They were tired of paying for the king and his families.
They were not the poor people that people think of. (At least from my family). They were landowners (stolen land) but land owners.
I think that is why the citizens were Free, white, male landowners. Not renters, not tenants. But Land owners.
In other words, oligarchy.

But we have always been a country of, for, and by the rich except for a couple of brief respites...most notably the new deal era from 1946 until the 1980 election.
I could make an argument for the 1866 reconstruction until the brokered Hayes -tilden election but you had the growth of robber barons during that era...and share cropping that slavery in many ways except the name.

(38,608 posts)But I do know what a Right of Way is, and that it (usually, not always) extends to the back of the sidewalk.
That is the most reasonable explanation for why the cops could arrest her for standing on a sidewalk.

On May 15, 192394 years ago todaymuckraking author Upton Sinclair was arrested in San Pedro as he tried to read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to a group of striking dockworkers, leading to the founding of the ACLU's Southern California branch. The national American Civil Liberties Union had been founded three years earlier, in 1920.
Back in 1923, the LAPD had banned the striking dockworkers from holding public meetings. The Marine Transport Workers Industrial Union 510, a branch of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), had called a strike in protest of low wages, bad working conditions, and the imprisonment of union activists under California's Criminal Syndicalism Law, immobilizing 90 ships.
