I'm pretty sure that an uneducated numbskull like Trump didn't think of Greenland on his own as a territory which ought to be coveted.
Has such an imperialistic idea been traced back to any other identifiable source with influential access at the top of our government?
Whose neck needs to be wrung here?

Reason for wanting Greenland appears to be mainly its size and underuse.
Not nearly or in any respect good enough reasons.

Seems Bezos, Gates and Lutnick already have their foot in the door. Read the Wikipedia section on Mining, that is an interesting section.
Greenland's economy is hampered by lack of infrastructure with less than 100 miles of paved roads. However as of 2012, partly due to the retreating ice sheet due to climate change, Greenland was starting to emerge as a territory rich with untapped mining resources.

As of 2025, Lumina was digging for anorthosite, and KoBold, financed by Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and other billionaires for nickel.[30] Critical Metals Corporation has been operating a mine in southern Greenland, backed by Cantor Fitzgerald of which Howard Lutnick has been the firms chief executive prior to becoming commerce secretary in 2025.[30]

(1,353 posts)I can see him inviting a bunch of oil executives and asking them a question like - What would you have changed in the past that would have made you a bigger world leader than OPEC. And, as casual conversation, someone mentioned that not losing the Venezuela oil would have helped. So, T casually quips that, when he is president, he will get them back. No one realizes he is too ignorant of present reality to understand it was just a reference to a long past possibility. The same with Greenland when chip makers think they are having a casual conversation and jokingly mention Greenland. Done!
It always should be realized that T might be serious, especially if he thinks he can use such things to create the chaos needed to kill bad press.
