During a Wednesday White House briefing, Oz blamed low gross domestic product (GDP) growth for rising health care expenditures.
"We will correct that if we can get America to be healthier, because you can't be a wealthy nation without being a healthy nation," he argued. "If we're able to get the average American who today retires on average at age 61, get them just to work one year longer, because they feel so vital, so strong, so bullish about their future, because they're feeding their bodies nutrients that are essential to their high-functioning productivity. We will increase the overall GDP of our nation by trillions of dollars."
"So we will reduce healthcare expenses," he added. "At the same time, we jazz up the U.S. economy with trillions of dollars created by the productivity of American workers."

(412 posts)Im 55- got wrongfully fired from a very well known large multinational corporation for being 53 (although they TOLD me it was my performance - never mind theyd given me a promotion and large raise less than a year before for - wait for it- excellent performance). I had 16 years with this corporation, and excelled at my job for all 16 years. I was highly qualified for the job. Had multiple certifications in the industry, etc. But- got too old- so see ya. I was replaced by a 25 year old fresh out of college with zero experience.

(12,263 posts)They won't want to hire women, people of color, LGBTQ, or anyone over 40 (too 'woke'), and AI will take a chunk of what jobs there are. And NO HEALTHCARE until a person is - what, 67, 70?
THAT is what he is preparing for.

(21,823 posts)...the media put it out there as "THUNE CALLS FOR SOCIAL SECURITY CUTS."
Apparently in the meeting, Musk is STILL A FANBOY for doing that.
So Thune attempted damage control and said "HE" wasn't asking for cuts, they are looking at all of the options, and one of them is raising the retirement age.
Republicans WANT cuts to SS & Medicare, but they are still gun-shy about coming in through the front door to get them.
Raising the retirement age WOULD be a "cut," which would placate them...for now.
And they think there would be no blowback from that, so...FAFO.

(252 posts)And I have 4 family members who did not even make it to 60.
If I had the $$, I would certainly retire now at 63. Why wait until you are almost dead to enjoy retirement if you don't have to? I am struggling to make it to 67....damn I am tired!

(6,197 posts)ignorance. Especially those who inherit their worth rather than having earned it through hard work. The billionaire crowd appears totally detached from ordinary people's lives. That's why they look down on the poor and middle class (which is vanishing). Regret that Oprah ever introduced Oz to the public.

(3,266 posts)Did you even stop to think about what you were going to say?
I don't know what happened to you, you used to actually use your brain.
Let's slap you upside the head with the universal reality check clue x 4 and knock some of your unused brain cells together and attempt to get them working again.
Reality for many seniors: They get laid off from companies that don't want to pay retirement. Many also have major health issues that need medical care. Seniors have already devoted much of their life to working, often at jobs that never went much above minimum wage. Many seniors don't even consider retiring until age 62, some age 65, if their companies don't have a mandatory retirement age.
So no, seniors won't contribute much more to the gdp than they already are.
Here's a better suggestion- let's tax the crap out of those who make 100 million or more a year, close all the tax loopholes that let them get away with contributing nothing, but taking everything.

(21,823 posts)...management really didn't want to entertain the idea of hiring anyone over 50.
They SWOONED over "college interns" and "recent college grads," because it meant either an unpaid internship or a low starting pay. And, they were under the impression that since it would be a first job for many, they'd be grateful and wouldn't make waves. Also, they could be GROOMED into GROUPTHINK. They didn't put it that way...can't remember exactly how they did...but it meant the same thing.

(3,266 posts)was that IT companies wanted someone 18-21 yrs old, with 20+ yrs experience and would be willing to work for peanuts. Then the companies complained they couldn't find anyone.
