From CNN's Cindy Von Quednow
Gov. Tim Walz said he has issued a warning to prepare the Minnesota National Guard for a potential deployment following the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
We have soldiers in training and prepared to be deployed if necessary, Walz said, stressing that those troops are our National Guard troops.
They are teachers in your community, theyre business owners, theyre construction professionals, they are Minnesotans, Walz said. Minnesota will not allow our community to be used as a prop in a national political fight. We will not take the bait.

If they're being deployed to run ICE and rest of the feds out of the state, better very late than never I guess. Other governors should take note. This will get interesting if so (it's not going to be so).

(6,982 posts).... it sounds like a "performative" gesture. They aren't going to get into a shooting match with ICE.

Therell be people in the streets tonight and it will take just one agitator to start a riot. This is exactly what happened when George Floyd was murdered and Trump is itching for it to happen again so he can send in his National Guard who wont be as sympathetic to the protesters.

(2,035 posts)I wouldn't necessarily expect Trump's goons to remain peaceful. They may attempt to provoke confrontation. I think Walz plans to use the Guard to protect the demonstrators. I hope this does not spin out of control.

(21,808 posts)I don't live in Minnesota. I'm maybe 1200 miles away. No friends there, no family, never set foot in the state, and I'm in a state of rage and disbelief over what happened there.
So, factor in the people who LIVE in that community, and while Puppy Killer's storm troopers put themselves on the map with intimidation and violence, I don't think they are prepared to deal with the aftermath of one of their own murdering a local in cold blood. An INNOCENT local.
So National Guard, yeah. I hate to say their role would most likely be protecting Noem's goons, but that's what it looks like from my long distance view.
And while that may not settle well with some, I look at it this way. If Walz does call in the National Guard to prevent any violence against ICE, he is also protecting the locals by default. ICE doesn't care about shooting people, for any reason. That's the issue here, that's the "element" that needs to be controlled.
