Do you think these horrific videos of what ICE is doing will help turnout in the midterms?

I don't think MAGA will care, but I'm hoping this will increase turnout, especially in those who don't bother to vote. I'm hoping these graphic videos will be a bridge too far.

What do others think?

4. The government killing people does energize the maga base.

Just like when Trump ramped up federal executions at the end of his first term.
This killing may help to get the Democratic base to turn out more strongly.
As to whether the ignorant and apathetic third will remember this murder in even a month, that is something I'm not so sure of.

7. But not Independents (edit: I reread your reply, you mentioned third party)

Sorry, I missed that you mentioned independents already, wondering if this will energize them along with the Democrats (who I'm sure will be energized.)

I think the MAGA base is shrinking. I know there are lots of polls out there that show a massive swing in Hispanic votes from the GOP to Democrats.

I know it's only January, but I don't see ICE stopping its activity any time soon. Noem is talking about going door to door now.

I guess we'll see...

but i'd rather be hit by a giant asteroid

our new congress critters will be taken to the high place and shown all the kingdoms of this world

some will be reminded of embarrassing moments in their past

get thee behind me, satan, but we need to build the uss trump in my state don't we?

either way, we need to win convincingly enough that they can't recount and audit and refuse to certify back to minority.

There will be other outrages that will be foremost in the minds of voters.

Whether any of those will be the flibberdibigget "independents" who sway elections, I have no idea.

8. Do you see ICE stopping their activity by October--or escalating?
Thu Jan 8, 2026, 08:25 PM

I'm not sarcastically asking that; I'm truly wondering if they'll continue this crap. From all I've seen, ICE is getting worse. I guess whether enough people care about it to vote the GOP out remains to be seen.

But, so far it's been extremely disappointing to see just how far the GOP has been able to cross the line with zero push back. So, yeah, I'm a bit pessimistic.

6. I saw a story earlier on the local news about the incident.

The report was rather in-depth by local news story standards and leaned toward sympathy for the victim and MN authorities, and I nearly applauded them. But because he's from just down the road a bit, they had to tack on a bit the end with VP Mascara discussing the incident, and with zero rebuttal afterward to what b.s. he said.

So, call me a skeptic.

9. Good point--can we depend on the media to continue to try and make excuses in the guise of "both sides"

I mean, they are absolutely ignoring Trump's ridiculous rants, falling asleep in the middle of press conferences, messing up entire countries, and names of people.

If Biden had done ANY of that they'd be all over it. So I can't trust the news to cover this in any fair way; they'll cover it in whatever way they think will get more viewership. It's all about the $$$.
