The hateful rhetoric has caused a lot of this violence, Homan said in a Sunday interview on Fox News Sunday with host Jacqui Heinrich. So I said way back in March if the hateful rhetoric doesnt decrease, there will be bloodshed, and, unfortunately, I was right, and its not over. There will be more bloodshed unless we decrease the hateful rhetoric.

(30,166 posts)Textbook taunting. It was 100% her right to demean this small-dicked, state-sanctioned terrorist under the First Amendment. She definitely wasnt impeding his ability to do whatever the fuck he was doing. But this is why groups like Indivisible ask peaceful protesters to not engage one-on-one with ICE. I mean, I probably would have done the same thing, I personally think these thugs should be mocked and harassed so that they never have the peace of mind or a good nights sleep they deny the rest of us with their Gestapo tactics. But I recognize it as taunting, which the murderous snowflake interpreted it as a threat - to his manhood, I guess.

(11,792 posts)1. I see/hear hateful rhetoric from both sides every single day.
2. Rather than pressuring social media & other platforms to censor ideas or info, I wish their community guidelines would prohibit ad hominem attacks, and not just on other members, and require that all persons be spoken to and of with basic courtesy and respect. If you don't like what someone's doing or saying, critique their actions or message, but don't just call the messenger names or smear them with unfounded allegations unrelated to what they actually did or said.
3. I do not believe in censorship as a solution, because it fails to address the underlying causes for hate (e.g., the impoverishment of the population creates fertile ground for scapegoating); it spurs a race to see which authoritarian-inlcined oligarchs can censor who the most/fastest, ultimately becoming a means of oppression rather than a solution; and because, even when motivated by the best of intentions, censors invariably end up suppressing info that turns out to be true and important for the rest of us to know. It is truly a cure worse than the disease.
Different kinds of problems demand different kinds of solutions.

Where's the power balance, again?
So, yeah, sure sounds like both sides hate speech to me...

People that are ready to (or may be incited to) do harm to the 'other' - are not inclined to make fine distinctions about 'up' or 'down' ... It's just hatred, plain and simple.

(15,374 posts)Sure, there is hate speech going on with brainless radicals and aimless youth chanting as part of mob over a wide range of political topics, but there's also context in terms of the right to point out wrongs.
Again -"Shut up, let us do whatever we want to the vermin or die if you interfere" is hate speech.
The Left isn't saying this to ICE.
ICE is saying that to the Left.
You can argue hate speech over Israel/Palestine and who is the more just victim with permission to retaliate in another thread.
But - this is about ICE telling people unless they agree to stand by and witness assault and rape against their neighbors (the original definition, not just the sexual act) or be murdered if they even question what's going on, they're the ones indulging in hate speech.
It's apparently not hate speech to this branch of the Federal government when an agent sets up a situation where he shoots a woman for not complying, and spits out "F**k you Bitch" as he kills her.
It is apparently hate speech when her partner was telling him to leave ("You aren't f**ing welcome here - why don't you go get yourself lunch..." ), or worse, when the victim says "I don't hate you, dude..." before he shoots her.

So to answer your question, yes - the thread WAS originally about Homan / ICE (and hate speech).
I was simply sticking up for a post that I thought was accurate - and undeserving of being slagged. Hate speech is hate speech - it is a proven corrosive (and dangerous?) force in the body politic - and voices on the left do engage in it.
And (IMO) to fail to acknowledge it - is a mistake.

(60,949 posts)Calling fascists fascists and objecting to Trump creating an armed force that is operating independent of the state and local government is something the first amendment protects.
Compared to " hang Mike Pence" and attacking capitol police with Bear Spray and stabbing them with flag poles, whistles and speeches seem pretty civilized. What they seemed to have most problem with was people filming what they were doing.

(23,615 posts)Homan's comment is sick. "There will be more bloodshed unless we decrease the hateful rhetoric." Well guess what, the hateful rhetoric is unlikely to decrease -- especially since the President of the United States is one of the prime instigators of the hateful rhetoric -- so Homan's comment might as well just end at "There will be more bloodshed."
That's a cabinet secretary informing Americans that there will be more bloodshed. So what is the federal government's plan to decrease the hateful rhetoric?
Just last week an ICE agent shot dead a U.S citizen and mother of three in the street, and called the victim a "fucking bitch." Then the head of DHS called her a "domestic terrorist." Then the President of the United States called her a "paid agitator." Then the Vice President of the United States called her a "deranged leftist." All without knowing anything whatsoever about this woman. They spat on her dead body -- and likely put her family in danger.
So when is the hateful rhetoric going to decrease? It's not! Which means that according to the director of ICE Tom Homan, "There will be more bloodshed."
He's not talking about the President doing anything to decrease the hateful rhetoric, or the Vice President, or anyone in any position of power in the Trump Administration. He's telling regular Americans -- who have the First Amendment right to freely express their opinion about their own government -- that THEY need to decrease the hateful rhetoric.
It used to be the government's job to recognize that when the public is on edge, the government should use their power to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations. Not anymore. Now the government's job is to inflame dangerous situations for clicks and likes.
The bottom line is that Homan is saying that if you protest in a way the government doesn't like, then you can expect to be killed or injured by representatives of the government, and we should all just accept that as the new normal.
This really is sick stuff.
