(12,182 posts)"All of the money for the business interruption recovery relating to the American Airlines case went either to strengthen and support the overall business, or to the over 600 Cantor Partners, precisely proportionate with the exact stake in the company, Mr. Lutnick included, the spokeswoman said. For five years, Cantors Partners provided 25% of the firms profits to the 9/11 families, a total of at least $180 million, in addition to ten years of health benefits."
A senior executive at Cantor said the manner in which the settlement was distributed, including the chunk of money Lutnick received, is entirely appropriate since Cantor never promised family victims a portion of the money in the first place. The executive described the case against American Airlines as a business interruption lawsuit since Cantors offices were destroyed in the attack, meaning it was appropriate for the company to keep the money.
Cantor, this person said, has donated millions of dollars to charities to support the victims of 9-11, and the families of its own employees.
.......
Cantors opaque partnership structure makes it difficult to determine how much Lutnick could receive from the settlement. Lutnick is also chief executive of BGC Partners(NASDAQ:BCGP), a publicly traded brokerage firm, and he runs other businesses related to Cantor.

Cantor probably hated this and I bet it was devised from partners and/or board members.

(3,656 posts)In a nutshell, the tweet is clickbait featuring exaggerations extrapolated from much less incriminating core facts.
I'm shocked to hear of that happening in the establishment (formerly, loosely) known as the Twitterverse.

(27,196 posts)The guy I knew died in the twin towers on 9-11 and his family was screwed over and only received his insurance payout. He left a wife and two school age daughters. Who I later heard had to sell their family home. My boss at the time donated $1000 to a fund for them. Now hearing lutnut stole their money makes me even angrier towards him😡🤬!

It was said at one time that you had to be twice the woman to be half the man.
Lets update that to..you only have to be half the woman to be twice the man these days.

(1,952 posts)In CA if you sue someone you must pay a 45% commission to the law firm and pay their hourly wages. You also have to pay experts to testify for at least $50k each and all legal fees. It has gotten so bad that a man that won a $1M dollar jury award in CA had to pay $5M in legal costs.
The courts are a racket.

(18,569 posts)While it's true that the $135M settlement was distributed across 600 CF partners...
For some odd reason... it doesn't mention that CF paid over $180M directly to survivors families... including 10 years of full health insurance.
Typical I guess.
