8/10 This is a coordinated national supply chain. Organizations like ALEC and the Heritage Foundation design these source code bills. Your local Republican representative then just copies and pastes them into your own state law. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

Some articles suggest that Florida driver license is sufficient under Floridas new SAVE act, but i believe this is a WRONG interpretation: The language:
https://www.flhouse.gov/Sections/Documents/loaddoc.aspx?FileName=_h0991er.docx&DocumentType=Bill&BillNumber=991&Session=2026
1. The part in bold is the gotcha. The driver license will not be sufficient proof of citizenship until their records change.
(e) A current and valid Florida driver license or Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, if such license or identification card indicates United States citizenship.
2. The GOP / Heritage / ALEC lawyers that dream up this anti-democratic stuff are sneaky. They put driver license all over the place in the bill, as acceptable identification at the polls, and many people are erroneously reassured; but this is only adequate to IDENTIFY, NOT TO PROVE CITIZENSHIP.
3. Then people think Im registered, so iIm not worried but the language also gives the state agencies the authority and obligation to de-register people for things like change of address UNLESS the Florida driver data base specifically says that they have proven citizenship.
4. The GOP tried a very similar thing in North Carolina, with social security number requirements, and disenfranchised over 100,000 people.
5. People try to believe that this bill is going to backfire or hurt the MAGA voters even more because married women (blah, blah, blah), but this NAIVELY ASSUMES the policy will be applied in an even-handed systematic way, when nothing could be further from the truth. It wont be even-handed or systematic; there WILL be intentional voter caging. Normal people with good conscience do not easily contemplate the nefarious plots that those with real power can dream up. (Insurance prior approval processes and AI-based denials, for example.)
6. Are you an 18-25 year old who wants to vote and doesnt yet drive? Do your parents still have your original birth certificate? Do you have parents in your life? Are you a senior citizen who took the name of both of her ex-husbands? What legal paperwork traces you back to your original name? Has your passport expired, or did you never have one??
Even if you are ALREADY registered, you can be de-registered (requiring voter registration renewal, and triggering these processes) for changing your address or renewing your driver license.
The concept that this bill doesnt go into effect until Jan 1 is just more distraction from the reality that this will be used to disenfranchise MILLIONS.
